Minister Rijiju Assures To Repay Tax Paid For Receiving Medal

Union Sports Minister Kiran Rijiju has assured chess player Srinath Narayanan a refund of the tax that he paid to receive the gold medal, which he had won at the FIDE Online Chess Olympiad. Expressing his concern, Kiran said, "It was a case of misunderstanding between Customs and Courier company. The issue has been resolved." Reportedly, Srinath paid Rs 6300 as a tax to get his medal.

Magnus Carlsen Bags 10th Title in 2020 After Winning Norway Tournament

World Champion Magnus Carlsen won the Altibox Norway GM Chess tournament 2020 title one round before the end, after taking down the 17-year-old Iranian prodigy Alireza Firouzja. Firouzja's nervousness due to time pressure led to a blunder in the simple pawn ending game. Reportedly, Carlsen marked his 10th major title win of the year, and won a cash prize of $63,000.

India Qualifies to the Semi-Finals of FIDE Online Chess Olympiad

India has entered the semifinals of the FIDE Online Chess Olympiad by beating Armenia on August 28. India defeated Armenia 3.5-2.5 in the opener. An unexpected event took place when Armenia appealed against the result of Nihal Sarin defeating Haik M Martirosyan as they claimed it was due to a disconnection from "chess.com's" side. However, the appeal was rejected by the committee and India was qualified to the semi-finals.
