FIFA Suspends Pakistan's Football Team Due To Third Party Interference
Following belligerent takeover of PFF headquarters in Lahore, FIFA dismissed Pakistan's football team over third-party interference, on April 7. The hostile takeover, led by few protesters ousted the FIFA appointed Haroon Malik by allegedly replacing him with Syed Ashfaq Hussain Shah. However, such offences violates the FIFA Statutes and guidelines. Earlier, the country was suspended for six months.

Ronaldo Throws Captain Armband After Referee Snatches Winning Goal
Portuguese forward Cristiano Ronaldo was seen throwing his Captain's armband in frustration after he was denied the winning goal in the FIFA qualifier against Serbia on March 28. The match ended up being a 2-2 draw, as referee Danny Makkeli denied the goal despite the ball crossed the goal line. About his armband protest, Ronaldo wrote on Instagram, "Being captain of Portugal team is one of the greatest...pride and privilege".

Two Consecutive FIFA Club World Cups Slated In 2021
Football regulatory body FIFA has announced that 2021 Club World Cup edition would be hosted by Japan in December. As per reports, the postponed 2020 edition of the World Cup will also occur in February at Qatar. Due to the pandemic, the games in the tournament will not adopt a new 24-team format. Earlier, Japan has hosted the tournament eight times before the announcement of the current edition.

Senegal Football Hero Papa Bouba Diop Passes Away At 42
Former Senegal midfielder Papa Bouba Diop passed away at 42 on November 29. Mourning the death of the footballer, FIFA tweeted, "Once a World Cup hero, always a World Cup hero." Diop emerged as a hero when Senegal defeated the defending champion France in 2002 FIFA World Cup. Representing Senegal for over 60 matches, the 6-foot-5 Diop was nicknamed "Wardrobe" for his commanding game. Diop also appeared for several football clubs.

FIFA Cancels Women's Under-17 World Cup In India
Considering the current COVID-19 pandemic situation, the FIFA Council has cancelled the Women’s U-17 World Cup that was scheduled to be held in India. The event, which was earlier pushed forward to February-March of 2021, has now been cancelled after its further postponement became unworkable. However, the cancelled event will take place in India in 2022 and FIFA has handed over the hosting rights for the same as well.

Swiss-based Julius Baer Bank To Pay $80 Million In FIFA Corruption Case

FIFA President Gianni Infantino Tests COVID-19 Positive With Mild Symptoms
FIFA has officially confirmed that its president Gianni Infantino has tested positive for COVID-19. Reportedly, the 50-year-old has been showing mild symptoms and will remain under self-isolation for over 10 days. The football governing body has requested all the people, who came in contact with Infantino since past few days, to take the preventive measures.
