Delhi government introduced a scheme on July 18 to give financial assistance to women who want to undergo driving training and become professional taxi drivers. Sri Lanka Receives $1 billion Aid From India Amid Economic Crisis

The Indian government has issued USD 1 billion line of credit for Sri Lanka to aid in the import of food, necessary products, and medication. “India has always stood with the people of Sri Lanka and we will continue to extend all possible support at this juncture,'' stated spokesperson Arindam Bagchi. Notably, India had helped Sri Lanka with a USD 500 million line of credit to purchase petroleum products.

Kerala To Help Abandoned Children, Provide Rs 2,000 Monthly Until 18

Kerala’s Women and Child Development Minister Veena George has sanctioned financial support to children who have lost their parents to COVID-19 on June 21. The scheme will cover children who have lost both parents, and those who have been abandoned. According to the scheme, children will receive Rs 2000 every month until they turn 18 as well as a fixed deposit of Rs 3 lakh will also be made.

India Extends Financial Aid of $250 Million to Maldives

Indian government on September 20 extended a financial aid of $250 million to Maldives to pacify the economic sufferings caused by the pandemic. The loan was requested by Maldives' President Ibrahim Solih to Indian PM Narendra Modi in order to help the looming economic difficulties. Sent through the State Bank of India, the aid has a very low rate of interest and can be paid in 10 years.

Odisha Demands Relief Fund of Rs 1,100 Crore from Central Government

Odisha government has requested a financial aid of Rs 1,100 crore from the central government, owing to the floods in the state. The state government said that the flood has affected 14 lakh people in 6,000 villages across 19 districts, and ruined around 2.25 lakh hectares of agricultural land, including damages to 1.2 lakh houses. Reportedly, the Centre has agreed to support the state while stressing the need for "long-term-measures".
