WB Pollution Control Board Increases Decibel Limit Of Firecrackers Amid Festivals

Fire Broke Out In Firecracker Factory Of Aravalli District: Gujarat

In Gujarat, a major fire broke out at a fire cracker company, confirmed the local police in Aravalli district. As per sources, the fire broke out in the affternoon of April 20.  After recieving the information, the fire tenders and local police rushed to the spot and launched the operation to douse the fire. As of now, no casualties is reported, and cause of the fire is also unknown.

2 Killed In Blast At Firecracker Factory, Factory Owner Held: Virudhunagar

In Tamil Nadu's Virudhunagar at least two people died in an explosion at a fireworks factory on January 29. The incident happened at Moolipattu near Virudhunagar in Tamil Nadu on the night of January 29. Two people, Arumugam and Kupendran, have been identified and died due to the explosion. However, firecracker factory owner Selvakumar has been arrested by the police. Moreover, further details are awaited.

Mizoram Bans Firecrackers, Sky Lanterns During Festive Season

Firecrackers, sky lanterns and other pyrotechnic materials have been banned by Mizoram. Furthermore, selling and buying of toy guns with bullets during Christmas and New Year, was also banned by the government. Reportedly, regular checks on shops are conducted by a special team  of the state district. Moreover, the government requested the public to celebrate without bursting crackers and causing pollution.

SC Annuls Calcutta HC's Order Of Ban On Firecrackers In West Bengal

The Supreme Court on November 1 set aside Calcutta High Court's order imposing a complete ban on firecrackers during the upcoming Kali Puja, Diwali, and other celebrations. The bench of two justices also said the order was ''extreme''. The HC didn't listen to the firecracker industry which employs thousands of workers. The apex court also said different measures should be explored to ban toxic chemicals in firecrackers.

Haryana Govt Bans Sale & Use Of Firecrackers In 14 Districts

The Haryana Government on October 31 announced the ban on the sale and use of firecrackers in 14 districts. The ban covers districts such as Gurugram, Rohtak, Sonipat, Bhiwani, Charki Dadri, Faridabad, Jind, Karnal, Mahendragarh, Nuh, Palwal, Panipat Rewari, and Jhajjar. Furthermore, the government's order stated the ban will also apply where the average air quality index was in the ''poor'' category in November last year.

Odisha Govt Bans Fircrackers; Extends Night Curfew Till Nov 1

To protect the health of the citizens amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the Odisha government on September 30 banned the sale and usage of firecrackers during this festive month. Besides, the government said that the night curfew will continue in urban areas from 10 PM to 5 AM between October 1 to November 1. However, the curfew in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack will start from 8 PM between October 11-20.

Police Recover Car With Firecrackers Outside Shiv Sena MLA's Office

Police recovered a car with firecrackers outside Shiv Sena MLA Prakash Surve's office in Mumbai's Dahisar on August 14. Following the investigation, police summoned the owner of the car to the police station. The owner said he has been selling firecrackers for the last 8-9 years in Dahisar and had used the car to save it from getting wet. ''We'll verify all the angles", informed police.

Assam To Not Put A Blanket Ban On Crackers, Calls For Self-Restraint

The health minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma on November 10 said that the Hindus have the right to celebrate their festivals and there will be no restrictions on bursting crackers. He further called for “self-restraint” from revellers for Covid-19 safety. However, the Pollution Control Board (PCB) Assam has put forward dates on which there will be complete ban on firecrackers in Guwahati.
