G-7 Nations To Donate 1 Bn Doses Of COVID Vaccine To Poor Countries

The G-7 summit, starting from June 11, is likely to pledge the donation of one billion COVID-19 vaccines to poorer countries. For the same, the United Kingdom has announced to donate at least 100 million doses. Meanwhile, the United States is likely to contribute 500 million doses of Pfizer shots. Earlier, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson had asked the G-7 summit to take the initiative towards global vaccination.

PM Modi Not To Attend G-7 Summit In UK As India Struggles With COVID

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has cancelled his visit to the United Kingdom for the G-7 summit as the COVID-19 cases in India continue to mount. The spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs on May 11 stated that the PM will however deliver his address through a virtual session. Reportedly, two members of India's delegation attending the G-7 summit were tested positive for COVID-19 recently.

G-7 Summit: Indian Delegation Under Isolation After Members Test COVID+

Whole of Indian delegation to G-7 Summit in London have been isolated after two members tested COVID-19 positive on May 4. While Indian foreign minister S Jaishankar tested negative for the coronavirus, all the members of the delegation will now attend the summit virtually. Notably, not a G-7 member, India was invited by Britain. The British government said that ensuring strict COVID protocols, the delegates will be daily tested.
