GST Council Defers Decision To Levy 28% Tax On Online Gambling, Casinos, Lottery

In a meeting of the GST Council, the panel defferred the decision on 28% taxation on casinos, online gaming, horse racing and lottery, until next meeting in August. Headed by Union FM Nirmala Sitharaman, the 47th GST-Council meeting on June 29, decided to tax fantasy plays. Furthermore, a GoM headed by Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma has been asked to consider submissions of stakeholders and submit report by July 15.

Gambling Row Creates Spark Between TDP-YSRCP Kodali Nani: Andhra Pradesh

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and YSRCP indulged in a political war over 'gambling row' against AP Minister Kodali Nani. The TDP alleged Nani of converting convention centre, Krishna to be a Goa like casino and demanded action. The allegations were based on a viral video, which showed VIP people gambling and consuming alcohol on Makar Sankranti. Meanwhile, Nani said, if proved, he will quit politics, which created tensions.

Delhi Police Bust IPL Gambling Racket; 5 Arrested

The Delhi Police on September 22 busted an IPL gambling racket with five men having been arrested. The police seized two Laptops, 13 mobile phones, a television set and cash amounting to Rs 52,000 from a flat at Molarband Extension, Badarpur, where the gang was caught. The accused identified themselves as Akash, Ahsan, Sunit, Mukesh and Mohammad Shahjad.

Former K-Pop Star Arrested For Organizing Prostitution, Gambling

Seungri, a former K-pop star, has been arrested for allegedly organizing prostitution and gambling. He was sentenced to three years in jail for organizing sex workers for businessmen who he wished would invest in his nightclub, though he denied the charges. The 30-year-old also stole money from the club to gamble in Las Vegas, as per reports. Seungri was a member of the famous band "Big Bang".

Paytm Retrives IPL Cash Back Scheme; Made Changes in its Promotion

On September 28, Paytm retrieved its IPL Cash back scheme. Reportedly, the scheme was suspected to support gambling which is against Google's regulations. Paytm stated that they made changes to its promotions and assured its users, "Paytm has never been involved in anything that can be considered betting or gambling." Earlier, on September 18, Google had removed Paytm from its applications downloading platform 'Play Store'.
