'Post Of CDS Will Be Filled Soon', Says Defence Minister Rajnath Singh
Speaking at a media briefing, union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that a new Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) will appointed soon. He further stated that the "process for it is underway". The announcement comes after India's first CDS General Bipin Rawat passed away in a plane crash, in December 2021. The post of CDS is of the highest uniformed officer in rank.

Army To Dedicate A Chair In Memory Of General Rawat
On the birthday of General Bipin Rawat on March 15, has dedicated a chair of excellence at the United Service Institution of India. Captain Varun Singh, Lone Survivor Of TN IAF Chopper Crash Incident Passes Away
Captain Varun Singh of the Indian Air Force (IAF) and the lone survivor of the Tamil Nadu Chopper crash, died on December 15. He succumbed to injuries at a private hospital in Bengaluru, Karnataka. "IAF is deeply saddened to inform the passing away of brave heart captain Varun Singh," tweeted the IAF. On December 8, IAF Chopper crashed in Tamil Nadu, killing General Bipin Rawat, his wife and 11 others.

General Bipin Rawat Last Rites With Military Honors Begins
The last rites of CDS General Bipin Rawat is being performed on December 10 in Delhi. Earlier, the funeral procession was headed to Brar Square Crematorium. Indian political leaders, military commandos of Nepal, Srilanka, Bhutan, and Bangladesh took part in the procession, followed by a funeral at 4:00 P.M. Mr. Rawat, Wife Madhulika Rawat and 11 others died in Tami Nadu plane crash on December 8.

Madhulika Rawat, wife of General Bipin Rawat passed away in a helicopter crash in Tamil Nadu, along with her husband. She was the president of the Army Wives Welfare Association, while engaging regularly in social services. Furthermore, she studied psychology at Delhi University, and later got married to Bipin Rawat when he was a captain in the army. They are now survived by two daughters.

Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat, his wife and 11 others died in a plane crash in Tamil Nadu, on December 8. After hours of search operation, the Indian Air Force (IAF) confirmed the news. "With deep regret it has now been ascertained that Gen Bipin Rawat, Mrs Madhulika Rawat and 11 others on board have died in the unfortunate accident," said IAF.
