India Slips To 101 From 94 In Global Hunger Index 2021

The Global Hunger Index (GHI) 2021 has placed India at 101 from the previous 94th among the 116 countries, terming the position as ''alarming'' on October 14. Sadly, India is below Pakistan (92), Nepal and Bangladesh (76), and Myanmar (71). The report said the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change, and the slow economy made the situation worse in the world. However, China, Brazil, and Kuwait have performed well in GHI.

Global Hunger Index 2020: India Ranks 94 Out Of 107, Placed Under 'Serious' Category

India ranked 94th among 107 countries in the Global Hunger Index 2020, showing a slight improvement from its 2019 rank of 102 from 117 countries. While the world hunger was termed as ‘moderate’, the GHI categorised India’s score (27.2 out of 50) as ‘serious'. However, the child stunting rate in South Asia is still high, for which GHI held deprivation of food, education and poverty as major factors.
