Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday today offered prayers at the Golden Temple in Amritsar. The Congress MP will also participate in volunteer service at the Sachkhand Shri Harmandir Sahib. Earlier today, Punjab Congress president Raja Waring said that Rahul Gandhi is on his personal, spiritual visit. Punjab Govt Passes Bill For Free Gurbani Telecast From Golden Temple

The Punjab Assembly on Tuesday passed a bill introduced by the AAP government for the free broadcast of sacred Gurbani from the Golden Temple in Amritsar. The bill was passed despite opposition from the religious sikh community in Amritsar. However, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann said, Gurbani is everyone's right and it should be free of cost. The new proposal amend the Sikh Gurdwaras Act, 1925 and insert Section 125 A.

Punjab CM Seeks Free Telecast Rights Of Gurbani, Committee Opposes

The AAP-led Punjab government's move to amend the Sikh Gurdwara Act, 1925 to ensure ''free telecast rights of Gurbani'' from the Golden Temple has triggered a massive row. On June 18, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, the apex religious body for Sikhs, has reacted sharply to the move, asking the government ''not to interfere in religious matters.'' Notably, the Punjab CM will table the resolution in the cabinet meeting.

Punjab Witnesses Low Intensity Blast Near Golden Temple

One person was injured in a low-intensity explosion that took place on a heritage street near the Golden Temple in Amritsar, Punjab. No detonator has been found and it appears that the explosive was kept in a container, DGP Gaurav Yadav said, adding that it is too early to claim any terror angle yet. Police and forensic teams reached the spot and security was stepped up in the area.

Pakistani Pilgrims Arrive At Attari Border, Permitted To Visit Various Sikh Shrines In India

About 48 Pakistani pilgrims arrived at the Attari Border in Punjab’s Amritsar, and are scheduled to visit various Sikh shrines in India. The pilgrimage will be extended to 25 days, and the pilgrims will reportedly be travelling to various parts of India. Some of the highlights of the pilgrimage include, Amritsar’s Golden Temple, Delhi, Uttarakhand and Hemkund Sahib. This is facilitated by the 1974 protocol on visits to religious shrines.

Worker Killed For Chewing Tobacco On Golden Temple Street, 1 Arrested: Punjab

 

Three people including, two Nihang Sikhs, killed a factory worker over chewing tobacco on a street in Golden Temple, Amritsar. On night of September 7, three accused killed one worker, which was captured in a CCTV outside a hotel, and went viral on social media platforms. The police registered a case and arrested one of the accused Ramandeep Singh. Furthermore, a search for two Nihang Sikhs is underway.

After Amritsar, Kapurthala Reports Alleged Sacrilege Incident: Punjab

In Nizampur village of Kapurthala district, an incident of sacrilege was reported on December 19. A video went viral in which a young man tried to sabotage Nishan Sahib from the Gurudwara and was caught by the villagers. He was beaten up a lot, following which handed over to the police.  This was second such incident, on December 18, a similar incident was reported at Golden Temple, in Amritsar.

Devotees Seek Blessings At Golden Temple On 551st Guru Nanak Jayanti

Celebrating the 551st birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, devotees from across the country offered prayers at the Golden Temple and sought blessings on November 30.
