Google Maps Introduces New Feature Which Calculates Toll Costs For Trip

Google Maps released a new function that calculates how much one would have to pay in tolls when traveling along a  route. It is available on Android and iOS. While calculating routes, there is also an option to "avoid tolls." Google claims that the displayed prices are based on "reliable information from local tolling authorities," with the overall cost taking into consideration the number of tolls and time of day.

Google Maps Suffers Server Crash; Outage Witnessed In Major Countries

Following the server crash of Google maps on March 18, several people faced problems, especially the ones set out for weekend travel. People all around the world shared their experiences and concerns over the incident, via Twitter. The outage was seen throughout Canada, US and also India. Although Google did not elaborate on the problem caused, a spokesperson told Mashable that the technical issue is now fixed.

Google Map Captures Strange Picture; Shows One Foot Walking On Beach

A recently captured image by Google Maps has left the audience startle, with a few terming the picture spooky. The captured image shows a single leg wearing slippers and only half of it is present on the beach. Several people on the internet questioned the presence of rest of the body on the image. The picture was captured by Reddit user 'u/helloalola'.

Google Maps To Soon Include "Eco-Friendly" Routes For Drivers

Google's web mapping application Google Maps on March 31 announced to soon offer "eco-friendly" routes for drivers. The routes, based on traffic, slopes and other factors, will aim to generate the lowest carbon emissions. Google Maps Report: Search For Liquor Shops Decline; Sweet Shops Rise

In a report, Google Maps has revealed that searches for wine and liquor shops on its platform declined by 11% and 6% respectively in January 2021 in parallel with previous year's data. However, searches for healthy food hiked 46% from December 2020. Google Maps To Introduce 'Trips' Allowing Users To Keep Record Of Journeys

Google Maps is planning to introduce a new feature to allow users keep record of previous journeys with an option of deleting that as well. The new tab, named Trips, will also provide information like the distance travelled by users. Besides, the feature will show various information like transportation modes and restaurants among others. As per reports, it will be available for users with Google Maps version 9.12 and above.

Google Partners With BMC To Mark Containment Zones on Google Maps

With a view to help users navigate safely through the city, Google has partnered with Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to update information about containment areas in Mumbai on Google Maps. Reportedly, the user has to enable COVID-19 data layer, to see the containment regions of the city, shaded in grey. Google has said that it plans to extend the feature to other cities as well.

iOS Users To Get An Updated "Live View" For Better Location Sharing Experience

Google Maps has announced that it will provide iOS users with an updated "Live View" in the maps. The feature was earlier launched in google pixel and includes more feasible arrows and direction guidance when finding a pinned location. The announcement was made by google through a blog post which also mentioned that the feature will be available only in the phones supporting Augmented Reality feature.

Google Maps Now Supports Dashboard Functions on Apple's CarPlay

Google has reintroduced Google Maps for Apple devices, in particular Apple's CarPlay. The improved Google Maps include dashboard support, which lets the user navigate the map and have control over the media and other apps side by side with a split-screen. Google said in a statement that the feature is available for all CarPlay-supported vehicles and will be rolled out with the next iOS update.
