Expressing his grief, PM Modi termed his demise as a “monumental loss for the nation.” Home Minister Amit Shah also paid his tribute calling him "a devoted politician who took key decisions for the nation's peace & progress". He had served as the Union Minister for Urban Development and Tourism before becoming the J&K Governor in 1990.

Tamil Nadu's ordinance which aims to provide reservation for Government school students in medical colleges, has been accorded the 'law' status after approval by the Governor. This will provide a reservation of 7.5% which results in almost 300 seats in medical colleges being reserved for students from government schools who clear NEET, the medical entrance exam. Reportedly, the law is applicable from this academic year itself.
Speaking about the Maharashtra Governor using "secular" taunt against the state CM, Amit Shah opined that the governor should have been "more restrained in the choice of words". Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari on October 12, reportedly, wrote a letter to the Chief Minister (CM) Uddhav Thackray asking him to reopen places of worship with COVID-19 precautions. In the letter, he asked CM if he has turned 'secular' despite his Hindutva ideology. The CM in his response said that he does not need a 'certificate' of Hindutva from the Governor and a decision on his suggestion will be taken soon.

A suicide attack aiming the convoy of the Governor of Laghman, Rahmatullah Yarmal, on October 5 killed eight people and left over 30 injured. The spokesman for the provincial government has stated that the governor was slightly injured but survived the attack. Reportedly, no radical groups of the country has taken responsibility for the attack, so far.

A massive car bomb blast on October 3, near the district governor's compound in Ghanikhil district of Afghanistan, killed atleast 15 people and injured 30. Besides, the governor's spokesperson informed that few gunmen had also tried to enter the district; however, they were killed by the security forces. Obaidullah Shinwari, a member of the Nangahar provincial council, reported that almost eight civilians were killed in the blast.
