SC Court Slams Lower Court For Going Against Their Orders In Rape Survivor Issue
Going against the Supreme Court, the Gujarat High Court, refuted relief for a rape survivor, seeking termination of her pregnancy. The move drew backlash from the Apex Court, which came down heavily on the Gujarat HC and said, "What is happening in Gujarat High Court? No court in India can pass an order against a superior court order. It is against constitutional philosophy," said SC, which listed the matter.

Congress To Move Supreme Court In 2019 Defamation Case
Rahul Gandhi, the Indian National Congress (INC) leader decided to move to the Supreme Court, challenging the Gujarat High Court. Notably, on July 7, the Gujarat High Court (HC) rejected his plea, seeking suspension of his 2 year conviction in the 2019 Modi Surname Defamation Case. "There is one more option before us... the Supreme Court. Let's see," says AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal.

Rahul Gandhi Remains Disqualified MP As Gujarat HC Rejects Plea In Modi Surname Conviction
In a major setback to the Indian National Congress (INC) and Rahul Gandhi, the Gujarat High Court (HC) rejected Gandhi's plea, seeking suspension of conviction in the 2019 Modi Surname Defamation case. On July 7, the Gujarat HC said, "The conviction is "just, proper and legal." With this verdict of the Gujarat HC in plea, Rahul Gandhi will remain disqualified as MP, and is expected to move the Supreme Court.

HC Rejects Interim Protection Plea Of Rahul Gandhi
In a major setback for the Indian National Congress (INC,) the Gujarat High Court (HC) refused the plea of interim protection to Rahul Gandhi in the 'Modi Surname' 2019 defamation case. With the rejection, the court reserved the verdict on his plea for a stay on his conviction in the 2019 case which cost him his Parliament membership of Rahul Gandhi. Notably, a lower court convicted Gandhi in the case.

Rahul Gandhi Moves Gujarat HC In Modi Surname Row
After Surat Court, the Indian National Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, moved the Gujarat High Court, demanding stay order on his conviction in the 2019 Defamation Case. Notably, a Surat Court found Gandhi guilty of his "Modi Surname" row, and pronounced two years imprisonment. Reacting to the imprisonment, the Congress leader moved the Surat Court, following which he finally filed a plea to the Gujarat High Court.

38 Convicts Sentenced To Death Under 2008 Serial Bomb Blast
On March 9, the Gujarat High Court confirmed the death sentence to 38 convicts under the 2008 Ahmedabad serial bomb blast case. However, the special court led by Justice Sonia Gokani and Mauna M Bhatt had already issued death notice to the convicts under the act of CrPC. Reportedly, there were 22 bomb attacks in Ahmedabad on July 26, 2018.

Anti-love Jihad Law Made To Protect Our Daughters: Pradipsinh Jadeja
Gujarat's Home and Law Minister, Pradipsinh Jadeja, stated he will challenge the HC order to stay Section 5 of the amended anti-conversion law in the Supreme Court. Jadeja said on August 26 the "anti-love jihad law" was made “as a weapon to destroy the jihadi forces that abuse our daughters”. He added Section5, which requires prior permission of the district magistrate before conversion, is the core of anti-conversion law.

Drink Alcohol In Private Places: Gujarat HC Reserves Order
Gujarat HC reserved its order on August 23 challenging the constitutional validity of the Gujarat Prohibition Act,1949 on the grounds of the right to privacy to drink alcohol at home. Gujrat High Court Slams State Government On COVID-19 Situation
In a suo motu case hearing at Gujarat HC on April 12, the court disagreed with government’s explanation on handling the COVID-19 situation in the state. However, the reality is different from the government version and people have ‘trust deficit’ issues. The court objected to the shortage of Remdesivir injection and the government has not done enough on testing facilities. The state witnessed 5,469 cases on April 11, highest ever.
