Hathras Conspiracy Case: SC Seeks UP Govt’s Response In Journalist Kappan’s Bail Plea

Upon receiving a bail plea from journalist Siddique Kappan, the Supreme Court of India has issued notice to the state government of Uttar Pradesh, seeking response. The court has posted the matter for hearing on September 9, and has asked for a response to be submitted by September 5. Kappan has been arrested in the Hathras conspiracy cases, as the police submitted that he was attempting to “disturb the peace”.

Wife Killed, Husband Critical After Being Shot In Hathras: Uttar Pradesh

In Uttar Pradesh's Hathras, a husband and wife were allegedly shot by the people who had given money in exchange for land. The incident took place at the Sadar Kotwali area while they were returning home from the temple. The wife died on the spot and husband suffered serious injuries. "A special probe team has initiated an investigation and launched a search operation for the assailants," said DSP Ruchi Gupta.

UP Government Demand To Ban Popular Front Of India (PFI) Offices

UP's Special task Force (STF) raided several offices of Popular Front of India (PFI) and student wing Campus Front of India (CFI) in Delhi, followed by the arrest of CFI leader. Earlier on February 17, PFI leader Rauf Shareef was sent to judicial custody for five days. Besides, ED has accused Shareef of funding the trip of Siddique Kappan, the accused of Hathras rape case. However, the UP govt has demanded a ban on PFI.

Hathras Rape Accused To Undergo Polygraph, Brain Mapping

As a major development in the Hathras rape case, the accused have been moved to Gujarat for lie-detector tests. Reportedly, the four accused have been shifted from Uttar Pradesh's Aligarh jail to Gandhinagar, where they will undergo polygraph and brain-mapping test. The accused had been arrested for allegedly raping a 19-year-old Dalit girl in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras village. Earlier, UP CM Yogi Adityanath ordered a CBI probe in the case.

CRPF Jawans Entrusted To Protect Hathras Rape Victim Family And Witnesses

Following the Supreme Court’s October 27 order, 80 CRPF soldiers took over the security of Hathras rape victim's family. A three-judge Supreme Court bench had asked UP government to ensure CRPF security cover to the family and witnesses within a week. The apex court also observed that all the aspects of the rape case will be considered by the Allahabad High Court. Earlier, the UP Police were entrusted for the family's security.

Uttar Pradesh Police Seize Ganja worth Rs 1.25 Crore in Hathras

The Uttar Pradesh Police have take into custody about 140 bags of Ganja which is said to have been buried in an under-construction plot in Hathras. The police informed that each bag contained about six-seven kg of Ganja, accounting to ta total of 850kg. The worth of this is estimated to be at Rs 1.25 crore. The police suspect that it could have been smuggled from Odisha and investigation is underway.

Hathras Case: Independent Fact-finding Team Suspects Evidence Tampering

An independent fact-finding team has suspected that a "deliberate" attempt was made to tamper important evidences in the Hathras rape case. The team also alleged that the victim's father was coerced to be contented with the probe. It further mentioned that the UP police behaved in a dubious way vis-à-vis the case. Besides, the team questioned the UP government's intent behind shifting the victim to Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital.
