4 Death, 463 Fresh COVID Cases Reported In Mumbai; 4,550 Active Cases

Mumbai has reported 463 fresh COVID-19 cases on October 20, taking the total active cases to 4,550. Besides, the city reported 4 deaths, taking the death toll to 16,192. Reportedly, the number of active cases in the metropolitan city stands at 7,51,957. Further, as many as 40 buildings have been sealed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to avoid virus spread due to the ongoing pandemic.

Swiggy Grants 2-Day Paid 'Period' Leave To Female Delivery Agents

Swiggy announced that it will provide a two-day paid monthly period leave to its regular female delivery agents, on October 20. The delivery agents can take the said leaves voluntarily in the month. This decision was made to ensure comfort to the female delivery partners. Notably, more than 99% of the females working in the firm are below 45 years of age, and almost 89% of them have a child.

14,146 New COVID-19 Cases; India Records Lowest Daily Total Since March

Owing to 14,146 fresh COVID cases, India recorded a daily lowest total since March. However, 144 deaths were recorded, taking the new death count to 4,52,124. Besides, Delhi and Mumbai reported 21 and 1,533 fresh cases respectively. Around 11,00,123 tests were done on October 16, whereas, the total tests conducted in the country stand at 59,09,35,381. The next 3 months will be crucial for our country, says the Centre.

Government Has Big Plans To Celebrate 100 Crore Vaccination Mark: Health Minister

The government is planning to celebrate the extravaganza moment of reaching the 100 crore vaccination mark by making announcements at airports, seaports, railways, bus, and metro stations. The health minister stated that the target is expected to be accomplished by October 18 or 19. Centre Asks Major Oil Producing States To Reduce Edible Oil Prices

The Department of Food and Public Distribution has asked major oil-producing states to take required measures to ensure the reduction in the prices of edible oils. The directions have been given to eight states, including Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, and Uttar Pradesh. The reduction would thereby help in bringing down the food inflation levels, by providing relief to customers if prices reduce by Rs 15 to 20 per kilogram.

Govt Commissions 2,494 Oxygen Plants In 'Record' 112 Days

In a remarkable achievement, as many as 2,494 medical oxygen generation plants have been authorized at government hospitals in 112 days across 733 districts in India. It's a capacity to produce 3,324 tonnes of medical oxygen per day. Notably, 100% of the sanctioned plants are fully operational in 22 states and Union Territories. Reportedly, the government took the crisis as an opportunity to install these plants at hospitals.

Govt Raises Abortion Limit To 24 Weeks; Medical Termination Of Pregnancy Rules

The government has notified the new Medical Termination of Pregnancy (Amendment) Rules, 2021, that revised eligibility criteria for abortion, making it up to 24 weeks, which was previously up to 20 weeks. The eligibility criteria are also considered in cases of women who want to change their marital status during pregnancy, like widowhood or divorce, and even in cases of rape, incest, or sexual assault.
