In India, the daily Covid-19 cases are rising again, with over 800 new cases. On March 18, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) confirmed that India registered highest number of cases in over four months. The nation reported, With 841 fresh infections, the active caseload has now climbed to 5,389. This is the first time in the past four months, that nation registered a high number of Coronavirus cases.

Maharashtra Health Department expressed concern over surge in temperature, and heatwaves, which killed four people in the state. State surveillance officer Dr Pradip Awate said they have issued guidelines on drawing up a heat action plan and circulated amongst people to follow. Furthermore, the cooling rooms were also set up in the State, which reported highest temperature in March itself. The officials also advised people to be cautious.

Himachal Pradesh CM Jai Ram Thakur on January 21, said, there are high chances of an increase in the number of Covid-19 cases in the state. All the big events during the winter have been postponed and the peak is yet to come, he added. "People should follow the guidelines issued by the health department," CM said. Himachal Pradesh on January 20, reported 2,368 new Covid-19 cases and seven deaths.

Omicron, new variant of COVID-19, continues to rise in Kerala, with 29 new cases, on January 3. The Kerala Health Minister Veena George said, "Among those found infected today, 25 came from low-risk countries, two from high-risk countries and two in Alappuzha contracted the disease from their contacts, taking the overall tally to 181. In addition, 42 people were discharged, taking the active Omicron tally to 139 in Kerala.
