WB Villages Experience Flood-Like Situation Due To Heavy Rainfall

Villages of South Bengal are now submerged in water due to four days of continuous rainfall. With the DVC releasing water, people are in fear of a flood-like situation with a potential loss of property including the crops in farmlands. With the apprehension of high tide on June 26 and DVC continuing to release water, the state government is taking necessary measures to ensure that rivers do not overflow.

Heavy Rains & High Tide Causes Waterlogging: Kolkata

A downpour in the early hours of 17 June caused waterlogging in many parts of Kolkata with the Hooghly river's high tide accelerating the issue. A senior official at KMC stated the southern and western parts of Kolkata experienced heavy rains with an IMD report of 144mm rainfall. The storm water lock-gates of Hooghly has been kept shut due to the river overflowing resulting in knee-deep floods across several areas.
