In the Assam flood which affected over 11.09 lakh people across 25 districts in the state, at least four persons died in the last 24 hours, on June 17. Reportedly, around 19782.80 hectares of cropland have been submurged, including 1,510 villages under 72 revenue circles, which are currently underwater. Furthermore, water levels of Pagladiya, Manas, Puthimari, Kopili, Gaurang and Brahmaputra rivers are flowing above the danger level mark.

While addressing a press conference, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the discrimination against northeast students have gone down in recent years due to PM Modi's outreach to the region. He said that the discrimination has gone down to a "huge extent" due to "PM Modi's huge outreach to the northeast". He further stated that PM Modi's "visionary leadership has repositioned India as a strong global power". 

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma visited Dima Hasao district to review the flood and landslide situation, on May 24. Dima Hasao district has been badly affected by landslides, due to which, centre had earlier sanctioned Rs 180 crore for development works in the rail network which was disrupted. Reportedly, 12 villages in the district have reported landslides, over 80 houses have been affected and three persons lost their lives.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to tour Assam, India-Bangladesh border, and will inaugurate National Forensic Sciences University, on May 9-10.  Notably, during the visit, he will also attend a first-anniversary celebration of the Himanta Biswa Sarma Government. In Assam's Karimganj district, police arrested two men and retrieved 2,360 kg Ganja.
