Waiting Period Of 6 Months Not Mandatory For Divorce, Says SC

As a relief to couples seeking divorce need not to wait for months, as the Supreme Court (SC) announced in a verdict. On May 1, the Top Court said, now waiting for six-months for divorce is not mandatory anymore. The decision was taken under Section 13 of the Hindu  Marriage Act 1955. However, as per sources, the waving off of this six-month duration is applicable to consent divorce cases.

Tricked Into Signing Wrong Document

Domestic Help Duped Into Marriage By Fraudster; Court Denies Divorce

In Gujarat's Vadodara, a 23-year-old domestic worker Meena Parmar has been tricked into marriage by a man who disguised as a loan agent. Meena, who is poorly educated, wanted to buy a scooter. She was duped by Vijay and signed a marriage registration paper instead of vehicle loan papers. Reportedly, her divorce petition was rejected by the court due to lack of proof. Meanwhile, the fraudster has been absconding since then.

Delhi HC Asks Centre, State Last Time To File Reply On Same-Sex Marriage PIL
