IIT Kanpur PhD Student Dies By Suicide In Hostel Room

A PhD student from IIT Kanpur was found dead in his hostel room, on September 6. The incident reportedly came to light after Prasant Singh, the student, locked himself inside the room and didn’t step out. When the security forced entry into the room, Singh was found hanging from the ceiling, with the help of a bed sheet. His body was taken to a Mortuary, and further investigation is underway.

IIT Kanpur Student Drowned In Ganga, Confirms UP Police

In Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur, an IIT student identified as Chanchal Kumar Meena drowned to death in River Ganga, confirmed police on June 19. As per PTI,  ACP Kernalganj Tirpurari Pandey said, "Two students of IIT Kanpur had drowned while taking bath in river Ganga.  One of them was saved, while the other one drowned." Notably, a group of 10 IIT-Kanpur students went to the Atal Ghat at the Ganga Barrage.

India May Witness 4th Wave Of COVID-19 In June: IIT-Kanpur Experts

Experts from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT-K) have predicted that India may witness the fourth wave of COVID in June. ''The fourth wave starts from June 22, reaching its peak on August 23 and ending on October 24,” stated researchers. Its severity will depend on the emergence of new variants and the vaccination status. Notably, researchers had made predictions for the third wave and it was near accurate.

PM Narendra Modi addressed the 54th convocation of IIT Kanpur, on December 28.  During the event, PM Modi said, "Today India has become the largest startup hub in the world". PM emphasised on growth of the IIT sector since 2014, after BJP came into power. In the past seven years, the Centre also launched schemes and initiatives, 'paving new roads for youth,' said Modi, who is in Kanpur.

CM Yogi Kicks Off Kanpur Metro's Trial Run; Likely To Launch By Dec

The trial run of the Kanpur Metro has been started by Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath on November 10. ''Within the next four to six weeks, we'll be able to complete the trial and get it launched by PM Narendra Modi,'' said CM Yogi. The commercial operation of the metro is expected to start between December 15-20. In the first phase, the metro will ply between IIT Kanpur and Motijheel.

ICMR Gets DGCA, MoCA Nod To Conduct Drone Trials For Vaccine Delivery
