In Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur, an IIT student identified as Chanchal Kumar Meena drowned to death in River Ganga, confirmed police on June 19. As per PTI,  ACP Kernalganj Tirpurari Pandey said, "Two students of IIT Kanpur had drowned while taking bath in river Ganga.  One of them was saved, while the other one drowned." Notably, a group of 10 IIT-Kanpur students went to the Atal Ghat at the Ganga Barrage.

PM Narendra Modi addressed the 54th convocation of IIT Kanpur, on December 28.  During the event, PM Modi said, "Today India has become the largest startup hub in the world". PM emphasised on growth of the IIT sector since 2014, after BJP came into power. In the past seven years, the Centre also launched schemes and initiatives, 'paving new roads for youth,' said Modi, who is in Kanpur. 

Inspiring thousands of students who don't have luxurious facilities, Arya Rajagopal, who's a daughter of a petrol pump attended, secured admission in IIT Kanpur to pursue a degree in Petroleum Engineering. The Indian Council of Medical Research has received a go-ahead from the Civil Aviation ministry and Directorate General of Civil Aviation to conduct trials of COVID-19 vaccine delivery through drones. Granted conditional exemption, the study will be conducted in a collaborative effort with IIT-Kanpur.
