Meghalaya Politician Convicted In Rape Case, Pronounced 25 Years Imprisonment
In a drawback to the former MLA Julius Dorphang, the Meghalaya High Court dismissed his petition seeking to overturn the decision of lower court. Notably, Dorphang was sentenced to 25 years in prison for raping a young girl. The High Court panel hearing the case presided over by Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee, also ordered the state government to pay the victim a compensation of Rs 20 lakh within three-months.

Vijay Mallya Condemned To 4 Months Jail, Fined Rs 2,000 By SC In Contempt Case
Supreme Court issued a four-month prison term on July 11 for contempt of court to tycoon Vijay Mallya, who was charged in a case involving his bankrupt Kingfisher Airlines and a bank loan default totaling over Rs 9,000 crore. Mallya was also fined Rs 2,000. The Supreme Court postponed its decision in the case on March 10, stating that the proceedings against Mallya had reached a "dead wall."

Navjot Singh Sidhu Seek Special Diet In Jail, Undergoes Medical Tests
Imprisoned for one year in the 1988 Road Rage Death Case, Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu was taken to Rajindra Hospital, Patiala for a medical checkup. The medical examination on May 23 was in view of Sidhu's demand for a special diet, as he is not allowed to consume several food items. post-medical-examination, a board of doctors will decide diet for Sidhu, and his counsel will submit a report.

Man Granted 15-Days Parole To 'Impregnate' His Wife: Rajasthan HC
The Rajasthan High Court granted a 15-day parole to a convict named Nand Lal, who is serving a life sentence to impregnate his wife. The two-bench judge Sandeep Mehta and Farjand Ali, on April 22, reviewed the petition of the accused's wife Rekha (34) demanding her husband's release. The court said, “her sexual and emotional needs associated with marital lives are affected” by the man's imprisonment.

Assam Man Receives 10 Years Of Rigourous Imprisonment For Rape
A man in Assam's Hailakandi, who was accused for sexually abusing a 11-year-olf boy, has been sentenced to 10 years of Rigorous Imprisonment, on April 13. Moreover, the Hailakandi District and Sessions judge also slapped a fine of Rs 20,000 against the convict. The incident reportedly occurred four years ago, when the convict was 21-years-old. He took the boy to a toilet in Lala Rural College premises and abused him.

Lalu Prasad Yadav Given 5 Years Imprisonment In Fodder Scam Case
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) President Lalu Prasad Yadav has been sentenced five year imprisonment with fine of Rs 60 lakh, on February 21. The Special CBI court convicted Yadav and 99 others in the fifth Fodder Scam case, withdrawal of Rs 139.35 crores, Doranda Treasury scam during Lalu's tenure as CM. The CBI Court during the last hearing on February 15, found Prasad and others guilty and reserved the verdict.

Court Sentences Convicts Of Minor's Gang Rape To 30 Years In Jail: Jharkhand
The District and Sessions Court sentenced three youth accused of gang rape to 30 years and seven years of imprisonment, on December 8. Reportedly, the three were accused for kidnapping and raping a minor girl near Basantaria police station, in 2018. Rs 1 lakh of fine has been imposed by the court on those convicted for 30 years while Rs 50,000 on the youth convicted for seven years.

Aung San Suu Kyi Awarded 4 Years Of Jail In Myanmar
Former Myanmar's PM Aung Sann Suu Kyi and President Win Myint have been awarded four years of jail by the country's court on December 6. They were sentenced to two years' for inciting dissent against the military and two years' imprisonment for breaking Covid protocol, said Zaw Min Tun, Junta spokesman. However, the 76-year-old Suu Kyi has been in detention since February 1 after the military coup.

MP Woman & Son-in-law Gets 10 Yrs Of Jail For Filing Fake Gang-rape Case
The 29-year-old Gopal Rajak and his mother-in-law Guddi (46) were sentenced to 10 years of jail for lodging a fake gang-rape case against four neighbors by Ashok Nagar's session court on October 27 in Madhya Pradesh. Reportedly, the duo filed the case against them as they often used to have fights over the installation of a hand pump. However, the police found the both were in a relationship.
