An FIR was registered here against DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge's son Priyank Kharge for allegedly outraging religious feelings, police said on September 6. In a viral video, Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said, India has ancient roots and Indian Muslims were first Hindus, as Hinduism is way older than Islam. The video which is now making rounds on social media witnesses Ghulam Nabi Azad saying, "all individuals were initially associated with Hinduism in this nation." The statement was made during a gathering in Thatri region of Doda district.

Delhi Court on July 21 acquitted MLA and Haryana Lokhit Party (HLP) chief Gopal Kanda in the 2012 Geetika Sharma suicide case. Sharma was an air-hostess in Kanda's Airlines. In her suicide note, she had said that she committed suicide because of harassment by him. Shortly after Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court acquitted the former Haryana Minister, Gopal Kanda addressed the media outside the court premises.

Oommen Chandy (79,) the former Kerala CM and veteran Congress leader died in the wee hours of July 18. He was suffering from throat cancer and died at private hospital in Bengaluru. Furthermore, the last rites of Oommeni Chandy are scheduled to be held in Puthuppally, Kerala with full state honours on July 19. Meanwhile, speaking of Chandy's achievement, Oommen scripted history and was a sitting legislator for 53 years.

PM Narendra Modi leaves for his three days visit to the United States, on June 20.
