Tokyo Olympics: Sania, Ankita Loses Doubles Tennis 1st Round

Former India's No.1 Sania Mirza and debutant Ankita Raina lost the first round to Ukraine's twin sister pair Liudmyla Kichenok and Nadiia Kichenok (6-0, 6-7, 8-10). The Indian pair was leading the first set with 6-0 but the twin sisters showed no mercy and registered their win. Tokyo Olympics: Sumit Nagal Records India's First Victory In Tennis Singles Since 1996.

Sumit Nagal on July 24 became only the first Indian to win a Men's Singles match at the Olympic Games since 1996. Nagal who came in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics with a surprise entry beat former world No. 33 Uzbekistan's Denis Istomin with 6-4, 6-7, 6-4 in the opening match. With Sumit Nagal moving on to the second round, India's hope in the Men's Singles remains afloat.
