Citing four deaths at Tihar jail due to COVID-19, the authorities have requested the Delhi government to allow the release of prisoners over parole. Reacting on the request, the officials have intended to decongest the jail as over 20,000 inmates i.e almost double the official capacity are currently lodged. However, several petitions among the city jails have been filed for the release of prisoners, accused of non-heinous crimes.
