International Flight Operation Ban Extended Till Jan 31: DGCA

The Director-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on December 9, announced extending the ban on international flights till January 31. The Indian Civil Aviation Ministry decided to extend the ban in view of Covid-19's new variant Omicron. However, the flight operation under Vande Bharat, selected routes with lower cases of Covid-19. Initially, the international flights were scheduled to resume from December 15.

DGCA To Take Decision On International Flight Resumption: Omicron Scare

Amid the Omicron scare, the Indian Civil Aviation Ministry announced to reconsider the resumption of international flights. Scheduled to resume on December 15, the international flight services have now been postponed. The Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) will take a decision and announce the same in the due course of time. In addition, the DGCA and Aviation Ministry are closely monitoring the global developments of Omicron.

Indian Govt To Resume International Flights From Mid December

The Indian Government announced to resume international flight services from December 15. The decision was taken in consultation with the Union Health and Aviation Ministry. However, 14 countries, including Bangladesh, Mauritius, Finland, China, Botswana, South Africa, UK, France, Netherlands, Singapore, Brazil, New Zealand, Germany, and Zimbabwe are dropped from the list. India Extends International Travel Ban Till August 31

India has extended the travel ban for its international passengers till August 31. However, this does not apply to cargo services. In a circular issued by the Aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on July 30, it is said that the international travel ban will continue till 23:59 hrs IST of August 31. Besides, this action has been taken on the pretext of the Covid-19 third wave.

Felt Like 'Maharaja' In A Lone Flight But Will Not Travel Again

In what appears to be a unique incident, a passenger SP Singh Oberoi flew from Amritsar to Dubai with no co-passenger in the Air India flight on June 23. Although Oberoi mentioned he felt like a 'Maharaja', he may refuse the solo next time as it was very boring. Meanwhile, being the solo passenger, he spent time taking pictures, counting the seats and windows in the empty plane.

Canada Government Extends Travel Restriction Until July 21

Amid the COVID pandemic, the Canadian government extended its travel restriction until July 21. DGCA Extends International Flight Ban Till May 31; Cargo To Operate

The Director General of Civil Aviation has extended the international flight suspension till May 31 due burgeoning second COVID wave. However, the suspension will not affect international cargo flights that have been previously approved by the Aviation Authority. While the earlier flight ban was scheduled to end on April 30, the DGCA has decided to allow scheduled international flights for selected routes on case to case basis.

BCCI Assures Safe Travel Arrangements For International Players Post IPL

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has promised safe flight arrangements for the overseas players of IPL 2021 after the completion of the tournament. The decision came after Australian PM Scott Morrison announced a ban on all flights from India till May 15 with no travel priority for Australian players in the tournament. Recently, three Australian players announced to quit the IPL abruptly, citing "personal reasons".

Australia Bans Direct Passenger Flights From India Till May 15

The Australian government has announced a ban on all direct passenger flights from India till May 15. Australia's national security team has taken the decision to avoid new COVID-19 variant from entering the country. Earlier, the country had announced to minimize the number of citizens able to return from India and other red-zone countries to curb the virus. Canada Suspends Flights From India, Pakistan Amid Rising COVID Cases

Canada's Transport Minister Omar Alghabra has announced to dismiss all flights from India and Pakistan for 30 days, citing massive rise in COVID-19 cases. The minister said, "This is a temporary measure, while we assess and evolve situation and determine appropriate measures going forward." The decision will reportedly be effective from April 23. Notably, India recorded over 3 lakh new COVID-19 cases on April 22.
