People Face Worldwide Internet Outage, Major Big Websites Down

People faced a major internet outage on June 8 affecting multiple websites and social media platforms including Google. Reportedly, the crash was determined due to a glitch in a content delivery network (CDN) run by Fastly. Sites like Amazon, Twitch, Reddit, Guardian, New York Times, Pinterest, Spotify and many more faced glitches. Fastly stated that the issue has been identified and the fix has been implemented.

Govt Extends Internet Ban At 3 Farmers' Protest Sites Till Feb 2

The Centre has extended the internet ban at the farmers protest sites on Singhu, Ghazipur, Tikri borders along with adjoining areas till February 2. Suspended from January 31, the internet services would be resumed only after 11 PM on February 2. The government has cited the ban to maintain public safety and averting public emergency under the Temporary Suspension of Telecom Services (Public Emergency or Public Safety) Rules 2017.

Costing $2.8 Bn, India Tops Global List Of Internet Shutdowns

The Global Cost of Internet Shutdowns Report by UK-based firm Top10VPN has revealed that India accounted for nearly three-fourth of the worldwide internet curbs. Restricting internet use for 8,927 hours, the shutdown cost India $2.8 billion in 2020. Besides, India topped the list of 21 countries in terms of internet curbs.
