UN Condemns Mahsa Amini’s Death, Demands Accountability

United Nations experts have strongly condemned the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini. Mahsa Amini was allegedly killed in police custody in Iran for wearing an “improper hijab” and failing to comply with Iran’s strict rules on women’s dress. UN also said that the officials need to be held accountable for the death of Amini. “She is another victim of Iran’s sustained repression and systematic discrimination against women,” said experts.

Iran has executed three women in a single day, for charges of murdering their husbands, informed an NGO, on July 29. According to activists, cases of women killing their husbands have increased in the recent times. Most of these women have abusive husbands or were married off as child brides.
