In Iraq’s city of Karbala, at least seven people including children died after the collapse of Qattara of Imam Ali, a Shia Muslim shrine. According to Iraqi Red Crescent Society (IRCS), 70 of their volunteers are engaged in rescue operations. The incident occurred on August 21, when the mosque’s ceiling collapsed due to a landslide. Iraq Records 90 Cases, 10 Deaths Due To Viral Hemorrhagic Fever
Approximately 90 cases of viral hemorrhagic fever (VHF) were reported in Iraq, with at least ten individuals dying as a result of the illness, stated the Iraqi Ministry of Health. The VHFs are a category of viruses, including the Ebola virus, that target several organ systems in the body and can induce fever and hemorrhage. The Iraqi health ministry has not specified which virus is responsible for the current outbreak.

New President To Be Elected In Iraq; Parliament Decides To Form New Govt
The Parliament of Iraq has decided to conduct a session on February 7 to elect the new President of the country. In a meeting between Parliamentary speaker Mohammed Al-Halbousi and his two deputies, it was decided that a session to continue constitutional process towards forming a new government, will be held. Floods In Iraqi Kurdistan Kills At least 12 People
At least 12 people have died and many more are feared injured due to floods in Iraqi Kurdistan, reported the Radaw broadcaster. Iraqi PM Mustafa Al-Kadhimi Survives Assassination Attempt By Drone
In an attempt, Iraqi PM Mustafa Al-Kadhimi was targeted by a drone loaded with explosives at his residences in Baghdad on November 7. The Iraqi military said the PM got unhurt. However, several personals of the PM's protection group were injured in the attack. An investigation has been initiated, reported Reuters. Baghdad Summit: Iraq Hosts Regional Meeting

US Forces To Leave Iraq By End Of 2021 Says US President Joe Biden
Following his talks with Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa-al-Kadhimi, US President Joe Biden announced on July 26 that the US forces' mission will conclude and they will withdraw from Iraq by the end of 2021. However, the US troops will continue to train and advise the Iraqi military to its fight against ISIS (Islamic State Militant Group), Biden said. There are currently 2,500 US troops in Iraq.

At Least 82 Dead, 110 Injured In COVID Hospital Fire In Baghdad
A fire triggered at a COVID hospital in Iraq’s Baghdad on April 24 has killed 82 people and injured 110 people. Caused by explosion in oxygen tank, the fire at the Ibn Khatib hospital in the Diyala Bridge area forced people to jump out of window to escape. Terming it an evidence of negligence, PM Mustafa al-Kadhimi ordered an investigation stating a need to review safety measures for all hospitals.
