In the early hours of August 14, a gunman opened fire at a bus near Jerusalem's Old City. In the attack, eight Israelis were wounded, of which two are in critical condition, being treated at an Israeli hospital.  The attack is suspected by Palestinians after violence flared up between Israel and militants in Gaza. Israeli police forces were dispatched to the scene to begin investigations in the attack.

A lab in Israel has claimed to have created a synthetic mouse embryo, without eggs and sperm procedure. The lab claims to have created the embryo synthetically, using stem cell procedure. Hanna, a researcher, said that the procedure one day will be used to create artificial human embryo-like structures. "The embryo made had a beating heart, brain-like and intestine-like structure," said Dr Shivani Sachdev Gour.

Yair Lapid has become the 14th president of Israel, on July 1. Lapid's term will extend till a new president is elected, with Israel's elections having been scheduled on November 1. "We'll do the best we can for a Jewish, democratic state," said Lapid. US president Joe Biden congratulated Lapid and extended thanks to Naftali Bennett, for "friendship over the past year".

Archeologists uncovered a tomb in the Jewish Beit She'arim cemetery in Galilee, Israel, with a warning in blood-red writing imploring visitors not to open its doors. The discovery of this tomb, and the warning on it, has caused some to assume that it is cursed and will bring humanity to its end. According to experts, this is the first tomb found in a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 65 years.

The fresh wave of violence in Israel and the West Bank could possibly lead to military conflict with the Hamas. There were clashes between Palestinian protesters and Israeli police forces in Jerusalem last week. This comes amid several weeks of violence unfolding in Israel and the West Bank, following multiple terrorist attacks. The US State Department has called on all sides to exercise restraint.
