Rashmika Mandanna's Video Goes Viral, Union Minister Reacts
The recent deepfake video of actress Rashmika Mandanna has created turmoil, demanding action and rules for AI generated pictures and videos. In addition to Amitabh Bachchan, Union Minister Rajeev Chandrashekar also expressed concern. On November 6, he asked the platforms to take down any such content that violated the IT rules of India. Reminding IT rules, Rajeev warned strict action and legal penalty for accounts sharing the same.

Chief Of Facebook India Says, 'We Respect Indian law'
While talking to NDTV on September 25, the Chief of Facebook India made a clear stand over impartial policies Facebook enforces. Facebook was accused of refusing to take action against a BJP leader for "hate speech". Ajit Mohan categorically mentioned that the company welcomes the IT rules and will try and comply as "we have the utmost respect for Indian law".

Delhi HC To Centre: Reply As WhatsApp & Facebook Challenge IT Rules
The Delhi High Court has issued a notice against the centre on August 27 to submit its reply as Facebook and WhatsApp have challenged in their plea that the new IT rules infringe the right to privacy of users. The plea said tracing the first originator of the content goes against their promise of end-to-end encryption and is unconstitutional. The court will again hear the matter on October 22.

IT Ministry Withdraws Letter Issued To Apple Over IT Rules
The Electronics and the IT Ministry had withdrawn the letter issued to Apple India after concluding that Apple's iMessage would not be considered a ‘social media intermediary’ as it did not primarily enable interaction between two or more users. A letter was sent to Apple India by the Ministry over its compliance with the IT rules, concerning the iMessage service. Both parties are yet to respond to this development.

Indian Govt Responds To UN's Claim Of Rights Violation Under IT Rules
Analysing over the India's new IT rules, United Nation's three Special Rapporteurs claims violation of Freedom of opinion and expression. Alleged upon the violation of Right to Privacy, Right to Freedom of Peaceful Assembly and of Association, the UN wrote a letter to the Government of India. Responding to the allegations, it stated, there is a necessity of enacting the IT rules to curb the spread of disharmony, violence, etc.

Twitter Receives Legal Notice Against An Anti-Social Video
After a video went viral on Twitter, Uttar Pradesh police have sent a legal notice to the MD of Twitter India Manish Maheshwari. However, the notice says the MD has to come to the Police station Loni Border within seven days to record their statement as to why the platform ''Let the anti-social messages go viral." Reportedly, Twitter is facing the repercussion of not complying with the new IT rules.

Twitter Is Now Responsible For Tweets, Loses Intermediary Status
The ongoing tussle between the Indian government and Twitter has escalated further, as the platform has now lost its intermediary status. Although Twitter is currently responsible for the mistake of any of its users' tweets, it may get relief as a third party if it complies with the new IT rules in India. Twitter Asks For More Time To Comply With India's New IT Rules
Twitter has requested the Centre for more time to comply with India's new IT rules as the micro-blogging platform claims to be "unable to do so because of the pandemic". The company's spokesperson said, "We have assured the Government of India that Twitter is making every effort to comply with the new guidelines." This comes after the IT Ministry gave a final warning that threatened Twitter's future in India.
