Veteran Tennis ace Serena Williams on May 8 faced a defeat in her 1,000th tour-level singles match. Serena lost to Argentine Nadia Podoroska in the second round of the Italian Open. She lost the match with a 7-6 (6) 7-5 score in a game that lasted around two hours. The eighth-seed American tennist was competing in her first match after a long break since she last contested the Australian Open.

Italian Open: Rafael Nadal Loses to Diego Schwartzman in Quarterfinals

Rafael Nadal was beaten by Diego Schwartzman with 6-2, 7-5 in the quarterfinals of the Italian Open on September 20. The two-hour-four-minute long match with many unforced errors decided on the Spaniard to end the series. The nine-time Rome champion lost to the Argentinian after winning in nine previous matches. "It was my best match ever," Schwartzman said. Schwartzman will face Canadian Player Denis Shapovalov in the semi-final.

Rafael Nadal Beats Pablo Carreno in His Return Match After 200 Days

Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal defeated Pablo Carreno Busta in the Italian Open on September 17. The nine-time champion won against his 29-year-old Spaniard opponent with 6-1, 6-1. Nadal had last played at the Mexican Open, which was held in February. “It's good to be back on the tour but obviously the feeling is not the best playing without crowds,” Nadal stated.
