Congress President Sonia Gandhi's mother passed away in Italy. Paola Maino, Gandhi's mother died at her residence in Italy on August 27 and her last rites were done on the same day, the August 30. Notably, the Congress president had left on August 23 to visit her ailing mother, who was in her 90s. The news was confirmed by Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on August 31.

Italy Announces State Of Emergency For Ongoing Drought, Heatwave
Italian government announced a state of emergency on July 4 in response to Italy's extended heatwave and drought conditions. State of emergency will be in effect until at least the end of the year and will provide the government with additional resources and authority to deal with the hot and dry weather. Most of Italy has been engulfed by record-breaking heat, with temperatures consistently above 40 degrees Celsius.

6 Dead, Numerous Missing In Glacier Collapse Due To High Temperatures In Italy
A glacial ice shelf broke in northern Italy on July 3 amid warmer-than-normal temperatures, leaving at least six people dead and more than a handful missing. Additionally, there were at least eight injuries, one of which was severe. Authorities warned that the area was at risk for more landslides. In order to find the missing, injured, and dead, rescuers used cutting-edge global positioning systems, hound dog teams, and helicopters.

Italy's Mount Etna Lights Up Night Sky In Spectacular Eruption: Mount Etan Eruption
In a viral photo of Italy's Mount Etna, a volcanic storm has been created that sent bolts of lightning dramatically across the sky as high as 10 feet. No deaths have been reported, according to National Institute for Geophysics and Volcanology. The altitude of lava has reached 6,500 feet and no damage has been caused. The photos of the eruption are all over Twitter and netizens called it Phoenix.

125 Passengers Of Flight From Italy-Amritsar Test COVID-19 Positive
At least 125 passengers of a chartered from Italy, tested COVID-19 positive, on January 6. Flight landed at Amritsar, at 1:30 pm from Milan. Of the total 179 passengers, 125 tested positive, as Italy is said to be high risk countries for COVID-19 and its new variant Omicron. Furthermore, all the positive patients will be sent for institutional quarantine in Amritsar. Notably, flight was operated by EuroAtlantic Airways.
