Vice Presidential Election 2022: Voting To Begin, Dhankar & Alva In Fray

The voting for the election of new Vice President of India will be held on August 6. Current Vice President Venkaiah Naidu's tenure will come to an end on August 10. National Democratic Alliance's (NDA) Vice Presidential candidate is West Bengal governor Jadgeep Dhankar, who filed his nomination on July 18. Meanwhile, opposition's candidate is former Rajasthan governor Margaret Alva, who filed her nomination on July 19.

UPA Candidate Margaret Alva Files Nomination For Vice Presidential Elections

Margaret Alva (80) joint opposition candidate for the vice presidential election filed her nomination papers for the post on July 19.  Alva, the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) candidate filed her papers against the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate Jagdeep Dhankar. Notably, the VP elections are scheduled to be held on August 6, as the term of M Venkaiah Naidu is set to end on August 10.

West Bengal Governor Sends Back Files Relating To Financial Matters

Jagdeep Dhankhar, Governor of West Bengal, "remitted back" files relating to financial matters, on February 22. He also mentioned that the financial matters would be addressed only after the state Cabinet decides to summon the assembly. Notably, CM Mamata Banerjee stated that the Governor is "unnecessarily" delaying government's work by not signing the bills on time. Governor "has not been signing the bills on time," tweeted Dhankhar.

Bengal Governor Approves CBI Prosecution Of TMC MLAs In Bribery Case

The request for CBI prosecution of three present and one former TMC MLAs has been approved by the West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar on May 9. Reportedly, Subrata Mukherjee, Firhad Hakim, Madan Maitra and Sovan Chatterjee took bribes in 2014 when they were ministers. They were caught in the Narada sting operation. Recently, CM Mamata Banerjee had listed Mukherjee and Hakim as members of her newly-constituted Cabinet.

West Bengal Governor Alleges Discrepancies in Bengal Global Business Summit

West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar on September 24 alleged opaqueness in the Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS). Saying that FICCI, involved in BGBS, had connection with the Finance Minister, he pointed out that it was not clear who had benefited from the event. He insisted that the TMC-led government should publish a white paper with details of Rs 12.3 lakh crore, which was invested on the five editions of BGBS.
