Jahangirpuri Violence Case: Delhi Court Takes Cognizance Of Chargesheet, Summons Accused

In the Jahangirpuri violence case, a Delhi court has taken cognizance of the chargesheet filed by the police, and has issued summons to the accused who are in custody. The next hearing on the case is on August 6. The police have mentioned the names of 37 arrested persons in the chargesheet. Besides them, names of eight persons who are absconding and two juveniles are also mentioned.

Rohini Court Pulls Up Delhi Cops Over Failure To Control Jahangirpuri Violence

A Rohini court, on May 8, pulled up the Delhi police over their failure to control the Jahangirpuri clashes. Violence that had broken out in Jahangirpuri on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti. Many were left wounded in the incident. Cases of stone-pelting were also reported during the Hanuman Jayanti procession in the north-western area of Delhi. The court noted that the issue seems to have been brushed aside.

Congress Delegations Meet Families Affected By Jahangirpuri Demolition

After the NDMC's encroachment drive in Jahangirpuri, a Congress delegation led by GS Ajay Maken on April 21, visited Jahangirpuri and met with the families, affected by the demolition drive. Notably, on April 20, the NDMC demolished properties at the clash hit Jahangirpuri area of North Delhi. Maken said, "We have come to Jahangirpuri to meet the victims. Police have been cooperative". Demolition Drive In Jahangirpuri Stopped; SC Issues 'Status Quo'

After a demolition drive was initiated in the violence Jahangirpuri area of Delhi, the Supreme Court ordered "status quo", on April 20. Advocate Dushyant Dev said that the demolition drive was "completely illegal" and that no notice was given regarding the matter. With the issue of "status quo", the Chief Justice of India (CJI) has halted the demotion drive and has announced to take up the matter on April 21.

Jahangirpuri Violence Case: Police Arrest 5 Persons Belonging To Same Family

Amid the ongoing probe in Jahangirpuri Violence case, police have arrested five people and apprehended one minor from the same family, on April 19. The accused in the case include Suken Sarkar, his brother Suresh Sarkar, sons Neeraj and Suraj, brother-in-law Sujith. Following the arrest, Suken's wife claimed that it was only her family members that were arrested, and that the action is a "conspiracy" against their community.

Jahangirpuri Violence Case: Brick Thrown At Crime Branch Officials During Investigation

Police in Delhi have detained one person for alleged involvement in "stone pelting" at police officers who were probing the Jahangirpuri violence Incident, on April 18. The incident occurred at C-Block in Jahangirpuri, and a brick was thrown at Delhi police crime branch, reported ANI. Commenting on the incident, Delhi police said, it "was was minor, one-off incident. Legal action is being taken". Further details are awaited.
