US Woman Jailed For Approaching A Bear In Yellowstone National Park
Samantha Dehring, a US woman who came very close to a grizzly bear and her three cubs to take her picture in Yellowstone Nationa Park in May, has been awarded four days jail and fined $1,000. Dehring also unheeded park rangers' instructions. ''Approaching a sow grizzly with cubs is absolutely foolish,'' said Acting United States Attorney Bob Murray. The rules say one should maintain at least 100 meters distance.

Trudeau Slams China For Sentencing Canadian Citizen For Spying
Following China's decision to sentence a Canadian citizen for 11 years on the charges of spying, PM Justin Trudeau criticized China calls it ''unacceptable and unjust'' on August 11. Trudeau said the trial ''didn't satisfy even the minimum standards required by international law". The ongoing turf between both the countries is recognized as ''hostage politics'' as Canada arrested a Chinese national in 2018 on America's request.

Over 50% Of J&K Detainees Under UAPA, PSA Are Still In Jail, Report Claims
Official reports revealed that more than 2,300 people were booked in J&K under the UAPA in 2019 with 46% of them still in jail. Similarly, 30% out of the 954 people under the Public Safety Act (PSA) are still locked up. However, around 5500 people were detained in 2019 as preventive custody under section 107 of the CrPc, which has been released as per the Home Department.

Delhi Police's Charge Sheet Names Sushil Kumar As Main Accused
Delhi police named the wrestler Sushil Kumar as the main accused in its charge sheet filed before Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) on August 2. Kumar, who is currently in lockup, is said to be the main accused of murdering a 23-year-old wrestler Sagar Dhankar with his associates on May 4 and 5. Apart from five accused, 15 have been arrested so far.

Murder Accused Wrestler Sushil Kumar Demands TV At Tihar Jail
Wrestler Sushil Kumar, currently imprisoned at Tihar jail under Sagar Dhnakar's murder case, has demanded a TV in the jail premises to stay updated on wrestling. However, there is no update on whether his demand will be accepted or not. Earlier, Kumar had requested a Delhi court for special food and supplements to keep himself fit for wrestling but it was rejected.

COVID Scare Results Into Prison Riot In Sri Lanka; Eight Die
A prison riot in Sri Lanka has caused at least eight deaths and injuries to 52 people. As per officials, the riot was an outcome of a scuffle between guards and prisoners who were demanding early release citing rising COVID cases in the prison. The prisoners have also been asking for proper facilities, COVID-19 tests and isolation cells for the infected ones. The Mahara prison has logged about 1,000 COVID-19 cases.
