8 Dead After Flash Floods Hit West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri

In West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri, flash floods hit the Mal river, resulting in the death of at least eight persons, informed District magistrate Moumita Godard Basu, on October 5. Of the eight deceased, four were reportedly women. Basu further stated that a search is underway to find out if more casualties have occurred. Meanwhile, the injured have been admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Passengers In Pickup Van Get Electrocuted In West Bengal's Cooch Behar; 10 Dead, 16 Injured

In West Bengal's Cooch Behar district, a pickup van got electrocuted on August 1, resulting in the death of at least 10 persons. Sixteen out of 27 passengers sustained minor injuries, due which, have been admitted to Jalpaiguri hospital for treatment. According to the police, the electrocution happened due to the wiring of the generator of the DJ system. Further details are awaited.

24 Kg Ivory Seized From Smugglers In West Bengal; 2 Arrested

In West Bengal, forest officials apprehended two persons for allegedly smuggling ivory obtained from elephant tusk. The ivory weight upto 24 kgs in total. According to forest officer Hari Krishnan, the duo was coming from Malbazar area, when they were stopped and checked. The accused have admitted to the offence, and stated that the ivory was supposed to be delivered to their counterpart in Nepal. Further details are awaited.

Disabled Girl Assaulted In WB's Jalpaiguri District, Accused Arrested

The West Bengal police arrested a man for allegedly molesting a disabled girl in the Jalpaiguri district on April 26. Furthermore, the Superintendent of Police Debarshi Dutta registered a case under the relevant section o the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and launched an investigation. The initial investigation revealed that the accused who was the neighbor of the victim allegedly assaulted her on April 25 night in Maynaguri, Jalpaiguri.

13 Illegal Rohingya Immigrants Apprehended In Jalpaiguri Railway Station: WB

Police have apprehended thirteen suspected illegal Rohingya immigrants from Jalpaiguri railway station in North Bengal, on April 24. The immigrants came to Jalpaiguri railway station in two groups- from New Delhi and Jammu, reported PTI. According to an official, the immigrants "were on the way to Rohingya camps in Bangladesh, via Assam and Tripura". Also, a case against the accused has been filed under The Foreigners Act.

Cheetah Found Dead On Road In West Bengal's Jalpaiguri; Officials Suggest 'Roadkill'

In West Bengal's Jalpaiguri district, a cheetah was found dead in the morning on April 8. Officials suspect that the cheetah could have been hit by a vehicle. Repeatedly, the carcass was spotted on a road near Totapora tea garden, by morning walkers. The carcass as per witnesses, had deep injuries to the head, indicating a possible 'road kill'. Also, the body has been sent for post mortem.

Electrocution Takes Adult Elephant's Life In West Bengal's Jalpaiguri

In a tragic incident, forest officials of West Bengal's Jalpaiguri district found an adult elephant dead on the morning of November 17. The cause of the unfortunate death is reported to be electrocution. The body of the elephant was found in a paddy field in Jalpaiguri's Mogolkota Rava Bustee. Forest officials said that they have initiated the post-mortem process to find the exact cause of death.

130 Children Hospitalised Due To High Fever In WB's Jalpaiguri 

In a shocking incident, at least 130 children suffering from high fever and dysentery were admitted to Jalpaiguri Sadar Hospital, informed a health department official on September 13. Reportedly, two out of those admitted children are in serious condition. Considering the risk of the third wave of the COVID-19, the hospital's infrastructure is also being ramped up. Besides, DM Moumita Godara Basu is also keeping eye on the developments.
