8 Dead, 1,269 New COVID-19 Variant Omicron Cases Reported In Jharkhand

Amid a spike in COVID-19 cases, Jharkhand state has reported 1,269 new cases and eight deaths on January 23, while around 3,423 people have been recovered from the novel coronavirus. As per the new guidelines of central government, 39 deaths were added to the COVID-19 death list. Notably, Jharkhand state has 2,64,638 total active cases, as confirmed by the government on January 23.

BJP Questions Lalu Yadav's Stay In The Bungalow Allotted To RIMS Director

The Jharkhand's BJP President Deepak Prakash raised worries over RJD chief Lalu Yadav using the RIMS Hospital Director’s bungalow, while serving his jail term. Moreover, the new director of RIIMS is staying in the state guest house which costs Rs 800/day, paid by the government. According to the in-charge of Jharkhand prison, Inspector General (IG) follows the court orders and "No orders have been directed for the shifting of Lalu Yadav."

Lalu To Remain In Jail As Jharkhand High Court Defers Hearing On Bail Plea

The Jharkhand High Court has postponed the hearing of Lalu Prasad's bail plea to November 27 in the Dumka Treasury Fodder Scam Case. Prasad, who was convicted in four cases, has received bail in three. His counsel, Kapil Sibal, claimed a bail citing his health and informed that Prasad has already served more than half of the sentence. However, the investigative agency sought more time to file a report on Prasad's health.

General Consent No Longer Valid For CBI Probes In Jharkhand

Becoming the 8th state to do so, Jharkhand government on November 5 revoked the general consent given to CBI for investigating any case. All the states that have taken such decision have accused the Centre of misusing the CBI. CBI will now have to take permission from Jharkhand government to work on any case within the boundaries of the state. The move is, however, being questioned by the BJP.
