Jio Launches Free Calling Minutes For Users Amid COVID Pandemic

To help users during the pandemic, Jio has teamed up with the Reliance Foundation to provide JioPhone users a total of 300-free-minutes of outgoing calls/month or 10 minutes/day. Moreover, ‘for every JioPhone plan recharged by users, they will get an additional recharge plan of the same value for free’. However, the users subscribed to annual or JioPhone device bundled plans cannot avail this plan.

Reliance Jio Turns Top Bidder At 4G Spectrum Sale; Spends Rs 57K Cr

Reliance Jio has become the top bidder at the 2021 4G spectrum auction by acquiring the 488.35MHz band for Rs 57,122.65 crore. Becoming the largest holder in 2300 MHz and sub-GHz spectrum, Jio increased its spectrum footprint by 55%. Similarly, Airtel and Vodafone-Idea have acquired 355.45 MHz and 11.80 MHz respectively, worth Rs 18,698.75 crore and Rs 1,993.40 crore. However, participants didn't bid for 700 MHz and 2500 MHz.

5G Spectrum Auction: Reliance Jio Leads In Earnest Money Deposit

Reliance Jio has taken lead in earnest money deposit for the 5G spectrum auction scheduled from March 1. Investing Rs 10,000 crore EMD, Jio has been allocated the highest eligibility points (73,007) by the Telecom department. While Airtel deposited Rs 3,000 crore, Vodafone was allocated 6,153 points over its Rs 457 crore EMD. The 2,251.25 megahertz spectrum worth Rs 3.92 lakh crore auction will be in seven frequency bands.

DoT Mandates Prefixation of '0' For All Landline to Mobile Calls

As per a Department of Telecommunications's (DoT) release, landline users will have to prefix a zero for all calls directed to mobile phones from January 15. All major Indian telecom giants like Airtel and Jio have started notifying their customers about the new landline to mobile rule. Reportedly, the directive, which was issued in November 2020, has been implemented to secure adequate numbering resources for fixed-line and mobile users.

Punjab Face Signal Crisis As Farmers Turn Violent Towards Jio Towers

As per reports, farmers in Punjab are expressing their anger by damaging Jio towers and disrupting services. Reportedly, they have caused damage to nearly 1,500 telecom towers either by cutting the power supply or harming the backup generators. Moreover, they have burnt of Jio cables in Jalandhar. Vodafone-Idea Faces Decline In User Base For October; Jio Tops List

While Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio have added millions of subscribers to their networks in October, Vodafone-Idea Ltd has lost around 2.7 million customers. According to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Airtel and Jio have got 2.2 million and 3.7 million new users. Besides, their user base stands at 406 million and 330 million respectively. However, the user base of the Vodafone-Idea remains at 293 million.
