Ghulam Nabi Azad Floats New Party After Resigning From Congress: J&K
After resigning from Congress, a senior leader in Jammu & Kashmir, Ghulam Nabi Azad, floated his new party, the Democratic Azad party (DAP). On September 26, Azad said, "I am launching Democratic Azad Party (DAP) from here today. It symbolises democracy and freedom of speech and thought. Our ideology will be based on the ideals of Mahatama Gandhi." Notably, Ghulam Nabi Azad was with Congress for over five decades.

Islamic Body Expresses Resentment Against Imposing Bhajans & Surya Namaskar On Muslim Students In Schools

Cab Overturns Near Magi Mohre In J&K’s Rajouri; 8 Injured
In Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri, a cab overturned near Magi Mohre, injuring eight persons travelling in the car. Reportedly, the can was on its way from Bufliaz to Rajouri. Following the incident, the injured persons were rushed to the hospital for treatment, and are reportedly in a stable condition. Sub divisional police officer of Thanamandi Imitiaz Ahmed said that a case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.

Agnipath Scheme: Army Conducts Pre-Training For Aspirants In North Kashmir’s Baramulla
The Indian Army has organised a two-month pre-training program for Agniveer aspirants, in North Kashmir’s Baramulla. Youths from the said area, and surrounding areas, are taking part in the program, before enrolling for the Agniveer scheme. J&K Govt Waives Off Electricity Bills, Bringing Relief To Households
As a relief to the consumers, the government of Jammu and Kashmir announced an amnesty scheme for domestic electricity consumers. According to the scheme, the bills which are not paid, will be waived off, including the penalty. The waiver also applies for commercial houses, institutions, factories and business unit. This has come despite the J&K government running in a revenue deficit.

Earthquake Of 4.8 Magnitude Jolts Leh’s Alchi
An Earthquake of 4.8 magnitude on the Richter scale hit Leh’s Alchi on September 16. According to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), the Earthquake exactly occurred 189 km north of Leh’s Alchi. Furthermore, the quake had a depth of 10km below the ground, and occurred at 4:19 am. Notably, NCS is the nodal agency that monitors the earthquake activity in the country.

Minibus Accident In J&K’s Poonch Claims Lives Of 11, Leaves 25 Others Injured
In Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, in a minibus accident in Sawjian area, as many as 11 persons were killed and 25 other were left injured. Mandi Tehsildar Shehzad Latif said that the injured have been rushed to a hospital for treatment. Reportedly, the accident occurred when the minibus was travelling from Mandi to Sawjian. Also, the Indian Army is engaged in a rescue operation.

3 Children Injured In Leftover Shell Explosion In J&K’s Shopian
In Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district, three children have been injured in an explosion near an explosion site on September 13, informed officials. The incident occurred Heff Shirmal in Shopian, when a leftover shell exploded, injuring three children playing nearby. Following the incident the children were rushed to a hospital. This has a day after an encounter between a local militant and a soldier in the same area.

An earthquake of 3.5 magnitude on the Richter scale hit Jammu and Kashmir’s Katra on September 8, informed National Centre for Seismology (NCS). The quake occurred 62 kms East-North-East of Katra at around 7:52 am. Reportedly, the earthquake had a depth 10 kms below the ground. Further details on the matter are awaited.
