UP-based Journalist, His Friend Die After Being Set Ablaze

In a horrific incident in Uttar Pradesh, a journalist and his friend were burnt to death in Balrampur district on November 28. The journalist, identified as Rakesh Singh, used to work for a Hindi daily. According to the district SP Dev Ranjan Verma, the incident seemed to be a murder case. "A team of forensic experts have also visited the spot," he added. Reportedly, the accused are not identified yet.

Priyanka Gandhi Urges UP Govt to Provide Financial Help to Journalists

Following the death of Neelanshu Shukla, a young journalist from Lucknow, Priyanka Gandhi urged the UP government to provide insurance cover to journalists. Gandhi stated that the journalists are doing an important duty of providing information to public during the pandemic. "The UP government should provide financial help to Neelanshu Shukla's family and insurance cover to all journalists," she said in a Facebook post.

UP: Main Accused Arrested in Journalist Murder Case

The main accused in the TV journalist Ratan Singh's murder case has been arrested by the UP Police on August 28.  Inspector-General of Police, Jyoti Narayan said that the accused arrested, Prashant, has been found guilty and further probe is on. Earlier, a policeman was suspended and ten accused were charged in connection with the journalist's murder. The journalist was murdered in Ballia district of UP on August 24.

UP: Journalist Beaten up and Shot Dead, Police Arrest 3 Relatives

Ratan Singh (42), a journalist of a Hindi news channel, was shot dead on August 24, in Khetna village of Ballia district, UP. According to the police, he was taken to the village head's residence and was allegedly beaten before he was shot. Reportedly, three of his relatives have been arrested. The police tweeted “Ratan Singh had an old dispute with his relatives". They added, "the incident has nothing to do with journalism".
