Bombay HC Quashes FIR Against Salman Khan
In a relief to Bollywood actor Salman Khan, the Bombay HC quashed an FIR filed against him. On March 30, the HC quashed criminal proceedings against him on a complaint filed by a journalist in 2019 alleging criminal intimidation. Single-judge Justice Bharati Dangre passed the order. Notably, in 2019, a journalist filed a case against Khan alleging him of snatching his phone and threatening him, during a public appearance.

Rana Ayyub Tweets About ED Allegations, Says "My Pen Can Never Be Silences"
My pen can NEVER be silenced. Ironic that I conducted a seminar yesterday, here in the US, on the attack on the free press in India. I will continue to raise my voice against the persecution of the marginalised in the country," tweeted Journalist Rana Ayyub. The statement came hours after the ED prosecuted the journalist in Ketto crowdfunding case, alleging Rana of misusing charity money for personal use.

Journalist Siddique Kappan To Remain In Jail Amid ED Probing
Even after the bail approval from the Supreme Court, Kerala-based journalist Siddique Kappan, will continue to remain in a jail. On September 13, sources in prison department here confirmed that a case being probed by the Enforcement Directorate against him is still pending, therefor his release has been halted. The development came hours after the release order of Kappan was issued on September 12.

Apex Court Grants Bail To Journalist Siddique Kappan
The Supreme Court granted bail to journalist Siddique Kappan, on September 9. The journalist who was jailed for over two years under the UAPA by UP Police, will finally be out of jail after three days of trial. Furthermore, CJI UU Lalit led Apex Court bench granted bail on conditions like, Kappan cannot leave India and need to appear before local police, and stay away from political activities.

Brazilian Police Find Items Of British Journalist, Indigenous Expert Missing In Amazon
Brazilian Authorities discovered a bag and personal possessions of a British journalist, Dom Phillips, and an Indigenous specialist, Bruno Pereira, who went missing in the Amazon. They disappeared after receiving threats while on a research trip to Brazil's Javari Valley on June 5. Briton's mother-in-law has given up hope that they will make it out alive. They were last spotted at Sao Gabriel, near their destination Atalaia do Norte.

Special Public Prosecutor Submits Witness List To Court For Journalist Gauri Lankesh Case
Special Public Prosecutor in the murder case of journalist Gauri Lankesh presented a witness list to Bengaluru City Civil and Sessions Court on June 4. The hearing has been rescheduled to June 6 to allow for filing of any arguments to the plea. Trial will take place from July 4 to 8. Gauri was shot at her residence in Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Bangalore, on September 5, 2017, by three unidentified men.

Famous photojournalist Danish Siddiqui, who died while covering the Afghanistan-Taliban war in 2021, has been honored with the prestigious Pulitzer Prize 2022.
