CBI Files Petition In SC, Opposes Bail To Lalu Prasad Yadav In Fodder Scam

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) moved the Supreme Court (SC) challenging the bail of Lalu Prasad Yadav in the Fodder Scam Case. On August 18, the central agency filed a petition, which is expected to be listed soon before the SC Bench. Notably, earlier, the Jharkhand High Court granted bail to Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo and former Chief Minister of Bihar Lalu Prasad Yadav in the Fodder Scam.

Masterchef Australian Judge Jock Zonfrillo Dies At 46

Masterchef Australia judge Jock Zonfrillo died at the age of 46. The news was confirmed by his family in an official statement, on May 1. Zonfrillo, a Scottish-Australian father of four who was a judge on the popular TV cooking competition, was found dead by police in Melbourne in the early hours of May 1. No cause of death was given and police spokesperson said death was not treated suspicious.

Ketanji Brown Jackson became the first Black woman to be sworn in as the 116th justice of the United States Supreme Court on June 30. This is the first time in US history that a black woman has been appointed to the country's highest court. President Joe Biden said selection of Judge Jackson represents a historic moment for US. "We have taken another step towards reflecting the diversity of the US Supreme Court," stated Biden.

Indian Judge Votes Against Russian Invasion Of Ukraine At ICJ

The US on March 16, welcomed an order of International Court of Justice that directed Russia to hault its military operations in Ukraine. About 13 judges voted against the Russian invasion including Indian Justice Dalveer Bhandari, while two voted against the court order. Judge Xue Hanqin from china opposed the court's order. The court took note of the material damages caused by Russia to the buildings and infrastructure in Ukraine.

Justice DK Singh Pays Fees Of SC Student: Lucknow

Justice DK Singh from Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court paid the fees of an underprivileged student, Sanskriti Ranjan. The Judge donated Rs 15,000 for her admission at the IIT-BHU. Bihar Judge Attacked By Policemen; HC To Probe The Incident

Avinash Kumar, additional district and sessions judge in Jhanjharpur subdivisional court, claimed on November 19 that a station house officer (SHO) of Ghoghardiha police station and a sub-inspector assaulted him by forcibly entering his chamber. Moreover, the judge also claimed that the two policemen even pointed a pistol at him. The Patna High Court took suo moto cognizance of the incident and set up a special division bench.

7 High Court Judges Transferred; Gets Approval From SC

The Central Government on October 11 transferred 7 High Court Judges to the different HCs in India based on the Supreme Court Collegium's recommendation. Reportedly, Justice Rajan Gupta from Punjab and Haryana HC, R.B. Bajanthri from Karnataka HC, Sanjeev Prakash Sharma from Rajsthan HC were moved to Patan HC. Besides, Calcutta HC, Punjab & Haryana HC, Tripura HC, and Jharkhand HC will also get new judges.

Nine Judges Take Oath As SC Judge; Creates Historical Moment

For the first time! Nine new judges, including three women, altogether took the oath of office as Supreme Court judge creating history. However, the total number of judges at the apex court has increased to 33. While the swearing-in ceremony was conducted, Chief Justice N V Ramana administered oaths to the newly appointed judges. Moreover, Justice Nagarathna is expected to become the first woman CJI in September 2027.
