Bar Council Passes Resolution To Revise Retirement Age Of Judges

The Bar Council of India (BCI), has concluded that amendments must be made to the Constitution of India, revising the retirement age of judges of Supreme Court and High Court. BCI in a press statement, said that the retirement age of the judges should be enhanced from 62 to 65, and superannuation age should be enhanced to 67. The resolution will be submitted to PM Modi and Union Law Minister.

3 Judges Who Passed Karnataka Hijab Row Verdict Gets Y-Category Security

The Karnataka government announced to grant 'Y' category security to all the three judges who pronounced the verdict on 'Udupi Hijab Row'. Notably, the move came soon after a statement was made in Madurai, intimidating to kill the judges. It is to be noted, three judges Jamath functionaries in Tamil Nadu were charged for making disrespectful remarks against the Karnataka High Court on their verdict about the Hijab controversy.

Centre Approves 9 Judges Recommended By Collegium For SC

All nine names recommended by the Collegium for the Supreme Court have reportedly been cleared by the Centre. The Court currently has only 24 judges against the sanctioned number of 34. Sources stated that the orders are "processed, approved and forwarded to the President for issuance of warrants of appointment". For the first time, three women judges, including Justice Nagarathna, have been included.

SC Questions States About Security Measures Taken To Protect Judges

In view of the harassment and threat against the lives of the judges, the Supreme Court has observed that the judiciary is often "maligned" if unpropitious orders are passed. It also observed that the police and CBI doesn't seem to respond to the complaints filed by the judges. The bench asked all the states to file a status report about the security measures provided to the judges.
