Assam: Ambubachi Mela Cancelled For 2nd Time In A Row Due To COVID-19
The Ambubachi Mela, eastern India's biggest religious congregation, held in Guwahati's Kamakhya Temple has been cancelled for the second consecutive year. Scheduled to start from June 24, the organisers cancelled due to COVID-19 spread. The temple's chief priest informed that all the rituals will be performed within closed doors, devoid of any followers. Assam: Devotees Allowed In Kamakhya Temple Amid Strict COVID Protocol
Guwahati's Kamakhya Temple reopened on October 11 and devotees were allowed to stay for 15 minutes in the complex. Reportedly, the devotees were directly allowed to enter if they had a maximum three-day old COVID-19 negative report, or were asked to undergo a Rapid Antigen Test before entering the temple. The temple will be opened from 8 AM till evening. However, timings are subject to change in the Navratri period.
