Kamal Nath Resigns As Leader Of Opposition In MP

Congress leader and former Madhya Pradesh CM Kamal Nath resigned as the Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly. Although he resigned on April 24, the same has been approved by Interim President Sonia Gandhi, on April 28. In a letter to Nath, AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal confirmed Nath's resignation with immediate effect. Meanwhile, Dr. Govind Singh has been named as the new Congress Party leader.

CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan on September 26 said Madhya Pradesh has topped among states to administer the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine to its people. Reportedly, 6.11 crore people have received the first dose of vaccine that is 86% of the eligible people. Honeytrap Case: SIT Asks Ex-MP CM Kamal Nath To Submit Pen Drive

Former MP CM Kamal Nath has been asked by the Special Investigation Team to submit the 'honeytrap' pen drive which he claimed to possess. Citing the pen drive as "extremely important evidence", the SIT asked Nath to be present on June 2 for evidence-submission and recording his statement. However, Nath now denied of possessing any evidence and said the pen drive is with several journalists and circulated widely in MP.

FIR Against Kamal Nath For 'Indian Variant' Corona Remark

Several BJP leaders on May 23 lodged an FIR against former MP CM Kamal Nath, after the latter called coronavirus' B.1.617 variant as "Indian variant" in a press conference. The case has been registered under the IPC and the Disaster Management Act, for spreading fake news, circulating false alarm and creating panic. Meanwhile, Kamal Nath has defended his stance and called the FIR as "an act of desperation".

The Supreme Court on November 2 put a hold on the Election Commission's decision to remove Kamal Nath as a star campaigner for Madhya Pradesh by-elections.  The Chief Justice of India SA Bobde said that EC holds no power to pass such a decision, adding that it is the party that decides its star campaigner. Kamal Nath was removed from his position of by EC on October 30 for violating the code of conduct.
