SC Directs Bombay HC To Hear Anil Deshmukh's Bail Plea In Money Laundering Case
The apex court has expeditiously directed the Bombay High Court to hear the bail plea of Maharashtra minister Anil Deshmukh, in the ongoing money laundering case. The directions have come after Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal representing Deshmukh, appealed to the SC bench, stating, "he (Deshmukh) is a very sick man and 73, years old". Deshmukh was arrested after he failed to comply with the ED summons five times.

Former Congress Leader Kapil Sibal Files Rajya Sabha Nomination On SP Ticket
Congress leader Kapil Sibal announced to quit party and filed his nomination for the Rajya Sabha seat on Samajwadi Party (SP) ticket. On May 24, the ex-congress leader filed his nomination in presence of the SP President Akhilesh Yadav in Lucknow. He said, "It is important to be an independent voice in parliament. If an independent voice speaks up then people will believe it is not from any political party".

Kapil Sibal on Punjab Crisis: We Don't Know Who's Taking Decisions
Congress leader Kapil Sibal on September 29 said, "In our party, at the moment there is no President so we don't know who is taking (sic) these decisions. We know and yet we don't know." This comes after Navjot Singh Sidhu resigned as Punjab Congress chief two and a half months after his appointment. Earlier, Amarinder Singh resigned as Punjab CM saying he felt "humiliated".

Journalists Seek Probe Against Pegasus Scandal; SC To Hear Plea
The Supreme Court said that it will hear the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by senior journalists N Ram and Sashi Kumar to probe the Israeli Spyware Pegasus scandal. The petition was followed by reports that said that the spyware was used to snoop on several politicians, journalists, and activists. The issue was tabled by Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal on July 30 to Chief Justice N V Ramana.

Congress Senior Leader Kapil Sibal Says Party Not "An Effective Alternative"
Congress leader Kapil Sibal, who had recently criticized the party for its poor performance in Bihar, has now said the party was not "an effective alternative". Besides Bihar, he also talked about Congress' abysmal performances in Gujrat and Madhya Pradesh. Bringing up the topic of leadership, he added, "How can a party function without a leader for one and half years." He said there was definitely something wrong with the party.

Kapil Sibal Angrily Tweets Against Rahul Gandhi's Alleged Remark, Deletes Later
Kapil Sibal posted an angry tweet, in which he alleged that Rahul Gandhi said the leaders who wrote the letter had "colluded with BJP". The former Union minister and a senior Congress member is one of the 23 leaders who wrote a letter to Sonia Gandhi demanding for reforms in the leadership. He later withdrew his statement saying, "was informed by Rahul Gandhi personally that he never said what was attributed to him".
