Jammu & Kashmir: Bus Fell From Gorge, Killed 10 People And 55 Are Injured

Jammu and Kashmir death toll mounted to 10, and injured people increased to 20, after a bus travelling from Amritsar to Katra, fell in a gorge. The tragic accident occurred today morning near Jhajjar-Kotli, 15 km from Katra in Jammu. Furthermore, a rescue operation is underway and almost all the passengers have been evacuated, confirmed SP Chandan Kohli. He also said the bus was carrying more than permitted passengers.

Earthquake Of 3.5 Magnitude Jolts J&K’s Katra

An earthquake of 3.5 magnitude on the Richter scale hit Jammu and Kashmir’s Katra on September 8, informed National Centre for Seismology (NCS). The quake occurred 62 kms East-North-East of Katra at around 7:52 am. Reportedly, the earthquake had a depth 10 kms below the ground. Further details on the matter are awaited. Notably, NCS is the nodal agency of government of India that monitors earthquake activities in the country.

Two Earthquakes Of 4.1, 3.2 Magnitude Hit Jammu & Kashmir Regions

In an hour, two earthquakes, of magnitudes 4.1 and 3.2, hit Jammu and Kashmir on the late night of August 24.  The epicentre of the quakes was 62 kilometres northeast of the Katra area in the Jammu region at a depth of 5 kilometres, confirmed officials on August 25. Furthermore, no casualties or property damage has been reported in the Union Territory, said the concerned official.

Vaishno Devi Yatra Resumes Following Brief Suspension Due To Bad Weather

Pilgrims will be able to return to the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine in Katra, Reasi district, Jammu & Kashmir, on August 21. The yatra has been postponed since August 20 due to poor weather. Notably, the police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) are already on the ground. The Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board is keeping an eye on the issue.

Heavy Rain Causes Temporary Suspension Of Vaishno Devi Yatra

The yatra to Vaishno Devi temple atop Trikuta hills in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi region was momentarily halted on August 19 due to flash floods caused by heavy rain. Anshul Garg, Chief Executive Officer of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, stated the situation was under control and that no casualties or damage had been reported. Disaster management teams and medical units are on standby to respond to any emergency.

13 Students From Shri Mata Vishno Devi University Test COVID positive

Exams of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University in Jammu and Kashmir's Katra have been postponed and the University has been closed. The Major exams of the university were scheduled for January 3, 2022, but after 13 students tested positive for Covid-19 the exams have been postponed till further notice, University informed. As per the CMO of Raisa, on December 31, 2021, COVID tests for students were done.
