SC Refuses Stay On Theatrical Release Of The Kerala Story
Ahead of the release of "The Kerala Story", the Supreme Court refused to entertain the plea of petitioners, demanding a ban on the release. Furthermore, the Kerala HC also gave a go-ahead to the film makers to release the movie in theaters, on May 5. The film starring Adah Sharma, the movie created controversy amid the claims of Kerala women forced to turn to ISIS terrorists.

Three Paperless Court To Function From Kerala HC, Starting August 1
In Kerala, three paperless courts will commence functioning in Kerala High Court from August 1. As per sources, all-in-one touch screen personal computers will be given to advocates for paperless works, including display of the case and case files. The work will be automatic with the case taken on board as initiated by the court officer and the advocate, confirmed officials on July 30.

Kerala HC Grants Permission To Abort 24 Weeks Pregnancy Of Minor Rape Victim
In a landmark judgement, Kerala HC has granted permission for the medical termination of 24 weeks pregnancy of a 15-year-old rape victim. The court stated that if the baby is born alive, "the hospital shall ensure best medical treatment". The court also stated that if the victim is not willing to assume responsibility for the baby, the government shall provide the baby with medical and other facilities.

Malayalam Actor Vijay Babu Granted Anticipatory Bail In Rape Case
The Kerala High Court granted anticipatory bail to Malayalam movie producer and actor Vijay Babu in an alleged rape case. On June 22, the HC single-judge bench Bechu Kurian Thomas granted bail with conditions like, Babu needs to appear before the police from June 27 to July 3, shall not intermediate victim, not leave the state and furnish a bond of Rs 5 lakh with two securities.

Illegitimate Child Has Right On Family Property, Says SC
The Supreme Court set aside a judgement of the Kerala High Court, allowing child born of wedlock, to have right on family property. On June 15, the apex court, reviewed a petition filed by a Kerala person, challenging the HC order stating the illegitimate child has no right on property. The SC judge said, a relation of couple living together for long is as pure as marriage and announced verdict.

Denying Divorce In Failed Marriage Is Cruelty: Kerala HC
The Kerala HC On February 17, said, it reviewed a petition filed by a wife, which challenged family court's judgement of granting divorce to her husband over cruelty grounds along with custody of a 5-year-old. She refused the cruelty allegations and denied divorce. Reviewing the petition, Kerala HC upheld divorce and said denial to divorce in failed marriage which is beyond repairs is 'cruelty' and gave kid's custody to mother.

Kerala High Court Dimisses Anticipatory Bail As Accused Appeared For Trial
During a court hearing, the Kerala High Court (HC) clarified, an accused can't file for anticipatory bail, after appearing for the trial. Marital Rape Is Good Reason To Claim Divorce: Kerala High Court
Upholding the verdict by a family court, the Kerala High Court ruled that a woman can claim divorce based on ''marital rape'' under the ''good ground'' on August 6. The Court said, ''Marital rape...falls in the frame of physical and mental cruelty'' Notably, the bench dismissed the appeal of a husband who had challenged the family court's decision of granting divorce on the ground of cruelty.
