'Claim Your Public Place' Kochi Police Spreads Message Assuring Women Safety

The Kochi police started a campaign, 'Claim Your Public Place', on March 8, International Women's Day. The campaign will last for 3 days from March 8-10, assuring women's safety and freedom for them to visit public places during late hours. The campaign will be carried out in three different places in the City and the first campaign has started off at Queen's walkaway.

Kerala Police Arrests 150 Migrants Amid Police Attack

At least 150 migrants were arrested by the Kerala Police, on December 26. The migrants were alleges of attacking five policemen, set ablaze vehicle and vandalised three vehicles. They have took all migrants at a camp on custody, amid a fight which erupted during Christmas celebration in Kazhakkamballa in Kochi. The migrants will be under custody at various stations, until assailants were found. The investigation is underway.

Sex-Reassignment Surgeries For Trans Increases In Kerala, Says Data

As per records from Kerala's social-justice department, the number of sex-reassignment surgeries conducted for male-to-female transition outnumbers those performed for female-to-male transition. Passenger Gives Birth Mid-Air; Traveling From London To Kochi

Following the birth of a baby mid-flight, the Air India flight from London to Kochi with 203 passengers was diverted to Frankfurt on October 7. The lady's preterm birth was assisted by two physicians and four nurses on board. Later, Air India confirmed that the woman delivered a healthy baby and both are doing well. However, the plane was well-equipped with all of the necessary medical equipment, said officials.

A helicopter, owned by Lulu group founder MA Yousaffali, made an emergency crash landing in Panangad area of Kerala’s Ernakulam district on April 11 due to technical snag. Kochi: Restaurant Owners Launch App To Compete With Zomato, Swiggy

To compete with the existing food aggregators, the Kerala Hotel and Restaurant Association (KHRA) has launched a new app in Kochi. Tilted 'Rezoy', the app will charge 8-10% commission compared with existing competitors Swiggy and Zomato that charge around 25-30% commission. "We only charge a nominal commission ranging from eight to 10 per cent, and will be able to sell food at lower rates", said an official from KHRA.

Kerala Man Designs 'Rocket Stove' That Curbs Pollution while Cooking

In a unique measure to ease the stress on the environment, a Kochi-based man has devised a 'Rocket stove' that reduce the usage of LPG or electricity. Designed by 57-year-old Abdul Kareem, the stove can be ignited using dry waste, including coconut-shells and paper still curbs nearly 80% smoke-emission. Kareem said, "It can be easily used in the balconies of flats without disturbing the neighbours".
