Delhi Landlord To Get Back Shop After 50-Year-Old Legal Battle Against Tenant

The Supreme Court on March 25, passed a judgment in favor of Delhi-based landlord to reclaim his possession in Connaught Place after a 50-year-old legal battle with tenants. In addition, the shop was first rented out to a proprietor in 1936. "A sum of Rs 1 lakh shall be remitted to the appellant within one month from the date and Rs 12 lakh within six months,” stated the bench

Cabinet Approves Model Tenancy Act To Overhaul Rental Housing

The Union Cabinet has approved the Model Tenancy Act, 2021 that aims to modify the legal framework of rental housing across India. Consisting 47 sections and two schedules, the act focuses upon securing the "interests and rights of both the landlord and tenant" by making tenancy agreement compulsory. The government, through this act, eyes to move towards fulfillment of PM Narendra Modi's vision of 'Housing for All' by 2022.

Delhi: Tattoo Artist Commits Suicide At Workplace

After facing an alleged financial harassment, a tattoo artist, identified as Naresh Chetiwal, committed suicide on October 27 at his workplace in South Extension of Delhi. The deceased's uncle, Amar Nath, said that the 36-year-old took the extreme step due to his landlord's "torturing". He also alleged that police was supporting the landlord accused. Meanwhile, the police informed that the investigation is underway.
