Karnataka Landslides Claim Lives Of 6 In Dakshina Kannada & Uttara Kannada

A Karnataka police official stated that six persons have lost their lives due to landslides in Uttara Kannada and Dakshina Kannada districts. In Uttara Kannada district, four members of a family were killed after a hill collapsed on their house. In another heart-wrenching incident in Dakshina Kannada, a hill collapsed on a house, killing two sisters, whose mortal remains were found holding hands together.

Number Of Deaths From Excessive Rainfall Rise To 100 In Pernambuco, Brazil

The number of deaths from excessive rainfall in the northeastern Brazilian state of Pernambuco increased to 100 on May 31. As per reports, at least 16 individuals were still missing, 14 of which were buried by landslides and two of which were washed away by river currents, while over 6,000 households were evacuated. As heavy rain persisted on May 31, rescue operations had to be temporarily halted.

Heavy Rains In Brazil Kill At Least 31 People; Schools Open As Shelter

At least 29 individuals were killed by landslides caused by torrential rains in the Brazilian state of Pernambuco on May 28. Two individuals perished after being carried away in river floods in Alagoas, Brazil. Flooding has caused over 1,000 individuals to flee their homes. The city of Recife has opened schools to assist the homeless people. 33 municipalities in Alagoas have announced a state of emergency.

Centre Sanctions Rs 180 Cr For Restoration Of Rail Link Due To Landslides & Floods: Assam

Followed by floods and landslides in Assam's Dima Hasao district, the central government has sanctioned Rs 180 crore for the restoration of the railway network, on May 23. Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the allocated funds. The restoration work will reportedly be completed by July 10. Reportedly, significant train routes have been disturbed and several trains have been cancelled, due to the Damage in tracks.

Avalanche Hits Himachal Pradesh's Rohli, Highway & Roads Blocked

The State Emergency Operation Center informed about blocked roads and highways at Rohli in district Lahaul and Spiti due to an avalanche. Furthermore, due to landslide, State Highway 26 is already blocked and a rescue team from Police Post rushed for rescue operation. "A total of 119 persons were rescued and brought to Tindi. 16 vehicles were stuck due to the landslide," said Manav Verma, SP Lahaul and Spiti.

Jammu-Srinagar Highway Open For One-way Traffic Amid Heavy Snowfall: J&K

The Jammu-Srinagar highway shall remain open for only one-way traffic on January 15, from 9 am to 1 pm for light motors. "No vehicles will be allowed before and after the timings from Nagrota in Jammu, strictly," said Traffic Inspector Rakesh Kumar. The highway was closed due to heavy snowfall and landslides. Reportedly, many truck drivers who got stuck on the highway blamed transport management authorities for their losses.

Uttarakhand's Niti Border Road Reopens; Rescue Operation Continues

The Border Roads Organizations (BRO) informed that the Niti Border Road has been reopened for vehicular movement on August 29 after it was blocked due to landslides. The road connects the Indo-China border in Joshimath in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. "We are taking the help of the National Disaster Response Force to make an alternative way for people. The rescue operation is underway," the BRO said.

Multiple Landslides In Himachal; 9 Tourists Killed, 3 Injured

Nine tourists were killed and several others injured after massive boulders hit a bridge and cars during a landslide in Himachal Pradesh's Sangla valley. CM Jairam Thakur offered condolences to the families of those killed in the incident. He tweeted, "I spoke to the Kinnaur district administration and inquired about the accident. The administration has started rescue operations at the spot and immediate relief is being provided there."
